ITQ goes OTQ

Outside the Queensway, that is — far outside the Queensway. Like, very nearly in an alternate dimension from that in which what we call the Queensway exists. I believe the locals call it “Calgary”.

As a result, posting will be uncharacteristically light this week, although I’ll do my best to sneak on from the undisclosed location where I’m spending the next four days, and hopefully, they won’t do something crazy like call an election while I’m  out of town – but really, what are  the chances of that?

(Incidentally, at one point today, it looked like I was going to spend the rest of my life at Pearson Airport’s Gate B22 after my direct flight from Ottawa to Calgary turned into a direct flight from Ottawa to Toronto, followed by five hours of hanging around the terminal, responding with Pavlovian excitement every time the loudspeaker would crackle with an incomprehensible, yet somehow disheartening update on the status of our plane.)

Anyway, I’ll check in when I can, and I’ll be back in the land of the unhealthily politically obsessed on Friday. Until then, feel free to speculate wildly in my absence. Oh, and let me know if anything earthshattering happens, since I’m not sure how much access I’ll have to breaking news during the day.

    Another Friday evening release…

Public Works Minister Paradis statement released at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Conservative government is shelving a $2.1-billion project to replace Canada’s aging naval supply ships because bids from the shipbuilding industry were “significantly” higher than the money set aside for the program.

The government also cancelled a tender call for the purchase of 12 mid-shore patrol ships for the Canadian Coast Guard.
