You know.. you Dems can fact-check things.. all you want. Details details. The Polar Bears of Alaska are coming to her defense strong telling you all to lighten up!

Actual quotes from the bears:

"Drilling is it.. man. Think of it.. the more drilling, the less the Alaskan land. That means the Alaskan wildlife will run into the ice as the land runs out! More food for us. Pretty cool.. eh? Go Palin ! "

"I still have tears in my eyes as Palin made our species famous world-wide. She wanted to remove us from the endangered-list-- and you know.. that was the first time ever I became famous. She cares. "

"I could be in the white house as one of Palin's fur coats.. I have a shot at fame!"

Jay: "Why are Canadians interested in America’s elections? Why don’t you guys just worry about your own country?"

Hmmmm, I don't know...maybe it's because the results of your elections affect us too? Maybe because you don't exist in isolation from the rest of planet? This is exactly the mentality that has been screwing Americans and the rest of us over the for the last eight years. We worry plenty about our own country, but in case you haven't noticed, it's pretty closely tied to yours, what with the whole being next-door thing.

"America has a populist tradition of electing the ordinary because our Constitution never expected us to select the freakin leader of the free world."

No, it didn't, but times change. And the current global situation is such that your president does get to be the leader of the free world. So, whoever you elect makes decisions that have consequences for countries outside of your own.

No leader has to be perfect, I agree, but come on.

Why are Canadians interested in America's elections? Why don't you guys just worry about your own country?

America has a populist tradition of electing the ordinary because our Constitution never expected us to select the freakin leader of the free world. Gov. Palin is not Margaret Thatcher and she doesn't have to be.

The whole "change" argument by both party camps is pretty weak when you consider that they both have obligations to continue all our global military projects. Both camps will eventually bankrupt and destroy our country as we continue to overplay our hand in international affairs. Why must we waste our treasure and lives playing global policeman?

Ron Paul's comprehensive plans are the only real agents of change. But he's too full of himself to compromise with either party to fix what we must.

Obama will make this country like a EU country. That's not so bad until all our best and richest move to China because they are better rewarded for their efforts.

And McCain is more likely to be Bush III than maverick.

Palin is the only one I trust because she is us, imperfect and all. I only wish she had the wisdom of Thatcher, who dismantled the last remnants of the waning British Empire and privatized government to save it.

JT?...

also instead of waiting to "get all the facts"..research them on your own...just looking over the budget that Pallin vetoed some important line items..EDUCATION & GREEN ENERGY.

I looked ta the budget..lineby line..and what i noticed is that there were some services that werent funded at all..like behavioral health...but you see that 15,000 were granted to community in schools...wow a whole 15k..but line 16 the Kachemak Ski Club, Inc. gets a whopping 89,000..oh it gets better...
line 14..community development..gets nothing..
line 29..wildlife foundation...who serves toprotect endangered species..got zip.
but both 33 Yakutat Salmon Board - 250,000 &
Cook Inlet Aquaculture 403,825..a salmon hatchery...so lets recap...skiing, caviar (yes its public record she requested that beluga wouldnt be on the endangered list) are pretty important issues to ms Palin...

but dont take my word for it..read the budget yourself.

"Choosing Governor Sarah Palin as Senator McCain’s running mate IMHO was the wisest move possible to resurrect the Republican party and put them on third base. Both of them have such strength of character, belief, experience and knowledge for and of their country..."

YOu really haven't a clue do you?

That middle paragraph should read:

Why didn't Palin just use some of that $1200 that she gave away to every citizen in the state to fix that 'hole in the roof'.

Not sure what your point is JT.

If the school was using unsafe equipment what difference would the 'whole story' make?

It would seem that palin had no trouble borrowing money for her pet projects so why wouldn't she just borrow some money to fix the 'hole in the roof' instead of giving away $1200 to every citizen in the state.

It's obvious attempts at buying votes like that that will prove the republicants undoing.

The list of Fact Checks reflects the Democrats typical "omission of truth" strategy...

Fact Checked: "Palin vetoes $10,000 replacement of unsafe school equipment."

Point Being Made: Palin doesn't care about kids' safety.

What's the WHOLE truth? The school board had frittered away their budget? Replacing "unsafe" equipment was someone's desire for newer, expensive state-of-the-art luxury? The available money should instead fix the hole in the school's roof? We never get the COMPLETE story. This cheap election ammunition will prove the liberal's undoing

All vitriolic jabs aside would anyone be really interested in the truth about Sara Palin.. no the JUNK that is being peddled by both sides of the aisle; not the absolute swill the McCain camp is handling out like spiked Cool Aid, but how about something real. Something from a person who actually has been around Sara Palin since 1992??? Someone with NOTHING to gain by coming forward, but in fact more than likely has something to lose. If you want the truth, read this, it's straight from a resident of Wasilla, AK:

Re: guyfromtexaswithnohorse

I'm encouraged to see you are connecting the dots of the American political system!

As a Canadian with a deep interest in American politics I cannot understand why the Republicans are being considered at all.

They have been running the country for the last 8 years with arguably the worst economic record and now they are asking Americans to vote for them to "change" the country. You don't propose more of the same Bush policies with the same people and expect to effect change.

I wonder how the Republicans can fool the electorate into placing the 'Country First" when it lied to the electorate about Iraq and stifled any debate by questioning one's patriotism. Excellent strategy ! Keep using it while it works.

I for one find most of this utterly enlightening. By enlightening I mean that so many of the "left" are so regeressive that they are stuck repeating the same comments over and over again once their "She's unquailified because she can't look after her family and be a VP" didn't stick. As a woman wanting to enter the political arena thankfully people like her have no problem taking on the establishment and making them see red by not following their "guidelines" of what she should do!

The utter hypocracy of this group of people ceases to amaze me anymore.

At one point in time I was firmly behind the democrats and had little respect for the Republicans...My how times have changed.

And if people think calling Sarah Palin a new "Thatcher" is an insult...well, if she is a new Thatcher where do I sign up!

Watching American politics is rather like watching a baseball world series. The Wednesday night speeches hit the ball out of the park.
Choosing Governor Sarah Palin as Senator McCain's running mate IMHO was the wisest move possible to resurrect the Republican party and put them on third base. Both of them have such strength of character, belief, experience and knowledge for and of their country and will draw many people outside the party to vote for them. Vote for THEM as opposed to politics ideology! It's past time to recognize it's the leader at the helm who makes a country proud. Having watched the Democratic primary one was sickened by the bias towards Senator Clinton and, once again, believe an election was gained through unfairness. Many of Clinton's voters were turned off and, I suspect, having listened to and watched Palin will give their Free vote to the Republicans when November comes around. Two statements resonated - to keep America safe and ensure the economy becomes viable again. The public also needs reminding that Montana has quantities of oil once they learn to drill sideways - enough to supply all of North America.
The Canadian public needs reminding governing is not an easy task. Canada's Prime Minister Harper, with a minority government, managed better then most previous govts with a full majority. He attempted to reach across the party lines - and, often succeeded. Presidential candidate McCain stated he will do the same, if elected. We need to remember the elephant next to us and who is in power drastically affects our economy. B.C. residents are not happy with the carbon tax - do we need more taxes? Thank you.

First off, just wanted to say hey to the canucks, wish I was there, I love Americas "lil' bro". Secondly, the reason that we have to fact check what the Neo-conservative Republicans say is that in the past 8 years of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney we have had a very mysterious attack in New York that lead us down the path of retaliation and ultimately war in Afghanistan, but, if that weren't enough, Bush/cheney manipulated the power and the office of the presidency in order to posess more power, and attain in essence a monarchy in Washington. They lead us in Iraq to oust Sadaam, but, had no plan of strategy while we were there. Dick Cheney even said in 1991 that it would be a huge mistake that would cause civil war, but, they did it anyway. They devistated that country and brought in American contractors to "rebuild" it, but, those contractors have been pillaging the American economy by charging $7,000 for a freakin toilet and other outrages. It has been widely known that the Bush family and other neo-conservatives have been in the business of not only oil, but, defense contractors as well, and all other businesses that would be able to profit off of war. These greedy bastards have misled the American public for too long, and have done irreperable damage to our government that was founded on simple principles, but, guidelines nonetheless. They have exploited the loopholes in our laws for their own profit and have made laws in order to eradicate our own liberties and freedoms. They use religion, patriotism, and values to manipulate their base, and the country as well for a long time, but, the time has come when the educated masses have awoken. The conservative base that is left, is the one that is still able to be brainwashed by their tricks, and more often than not are the uneducated masses of our country, the ones who live in rural areas in their own value-based society and who spiritually worship all the time. The "liberals" of this country are far from perfect, but, at least we are smart, we have differences of ideas, we are more globalized in our thinking, and are able to rationalize a little more. We are not so easily swayed by what the government and politicians say, because we have access to the internet and books and newspapers, etc. which tell us differently and we are able to contradict out and out lies. I feel that liberals accept peoples points of views, but do not try to impose their values on anybody, contrary to what the conservatives try to do, and liberals believe in diplomacy, whereas the conservatives believe in shoot first ask questions later. The liberals believe in the ideal that everyone should be equal and should have a fair shot in life, and government should be able to do what we as humans cannot feasibly do for ourselves. dont get caught up in the crap the cons spread about socialism being like communism (first off they are the real communists by being 'big brother' and having propoganda Fox news and taking away our liberties in the guise of terrorism) but we view socialism as a way to help our neighbor, and view it as 'treat others as you would want to be treated'. Government should not be a burden, it should be a way to help people with healthcare, with education, with defense, etc. and not to privatize every single thing just so the elites can control even more things and more people. Conservatives see government as a way to get greedy and to get power hungry and start wars (it may be a little far-fetched description, but, its basically it). See, heres the thing, for the past 30 years or so, the conservatives have imposed a doctrine of "top down or trickle down" economics, whereas they give all the money to big corporations and the wealthy elite and hope that it some how trickles down to the rest of the masses. but, all that does is make the top 1% of our country wealthier than the bottom 95% combined. That only leads to an imbalance of what President Eisenhower said in the Military Industrial Complex speech, the balance of "private" and "public" economies. We have that imbalance, and as you can see, our economy is in the crapper. We have a recession and we are losing jobs at an alarming rate. The Conservatives try to dodge the issues by starting a culture war and try to insult and degrade everybody else, such as what Palin did the other night. It doesnt solve anything and only starts wars against our own citizens. Obama may be imperfect, but, at least he is has ideas, and so what if he has connections here and there as the conservatives try and portray him, the fact is, he is way better than what we have right now. The reason that we have to fact check palin is to prove our point that no matter who the conservatives put up, they are all the same, they are all corrupt. And yes, dissenters may say that the democrats may be corrupt, but, you know what, they also have ideals, and democrats are democrats for a reason because they started out by being rational people. The conservatives started out as being religious and moral people yes, but, then went into the economic side to see how they can exploit it. This is the difference, and only if you Canucks could see it from people who have lived this stupidity for so long. me, i had to go to the George H.W. Bush school of political science at texas A&M to realize how absolutely absurd this crap is. its time for people to click on that light switch on the other side of their brain.

Sarah Palin should win an Academy Award for that
acting job. That was the best job of performing scripted lines than anyone in the history of Hollywood. Do you really think she wrote that speech? She could have read the phonebook and that crowd would have loved it.
I wonder if she even knows what the word 'extrapolate' means. Will she be able to answer questions w/out GOP talking points?
By the way, if McCain and his VP are such "reformers" and "mavericks," why are they running as Republicans? Shouldn't they be members of their own party(The Reform Party)?
Are they only reforming what the Democrats have done? Do the GOP hacks know that the McCain message of change is a backhanded slap at the GOP?
Has McCain sold out to the neocons, the
extremists, right wing wind bags, and to the "integrity" that he and others so adamantly claim he has? In keeping it real: YES!

1. Can these FactCheckers report what is % when Obama voted in line with the President. If he voted 97% along with D* party, assuming 1% of vetoes, means he voted 95% or more with the President:-) :-) :-).
2. These bills. Reached out to..., sponsored..., co-sponsored, etc. Sarah Baracuda asked how many bills he wrote himself between collecting paychecks from his memours?
3. Henry Kissinger said... Is Henry Kissinger now is the authority everybody should follow? New world test (Kerry campaign)?

Well, the American liberal/left might be enraged (with good reason) but untwisting the dishonesty of Conservapublican rhetoric is, for most people, invigorating. And the ease with which they lie about straightforward matters than can easily be fact-checked is highly amusing.

My Lord, it warms my heart to see the hate-filled hysteria of the "liberal" left. Sarah Palin really has them choking on their rage, now that they see it won't be easy to bully their way into the White House.

"I love the smell of Democrat fear in the morning. It smells like victory. My wife had tears in her eyes watching that strong independent woman take it to all the trash talking elites."

LOL, the Democrats are trembling in fear before the ascendant power of cheap mockery and bad jokes! I think it's pretty telling that Sarah Palin, given the opportunity to say something cogent on the national stage, she chose instead to overplay her hand and go into full-on attack mode.

Did the speech energize the base? Certainly, but it's energized the Democratic base even more, which is probably not the effect the GOP was hoping to produce.

In contrast, Obama voted in line with Senate Democracts 97% of the time.

So...against Bush? That's not toeing the party line, that's having an ounce of common sense.

jwl - The President's position is usually fairly clear. He articulates his policy goals in the State of the Union address, his administration works with Congressional and Senate leaders to advance his agenda, and he's got a spokesperson that comments on pretty much everything.

It's usually pretty plain to average policy wonks, never mind Washington insiders.

When a Conservapublican says anything, you have to fact check every word...even the prepositions. It is a daunting task; they can send a lie flying around the world while the truth is still putting on its pants.

The Obama campaign is on the ball getting it all out quickly so the "journalists" don't have to do any hard work. A smart move.

Ed

Thanks for the reference but I still don't get it. Are they saying McCain votes 95% of the time with other Repub Senators?

I wonder because the president doesn't vote nor does he write legislation so I am not sure how they know what his position is. Bush is a near-record holder in not-vetoing any legislation and surely there was plenty in those bills he wasn't too chuffed about.

jwl - Just because you keep repeating it doesn't make it true. The President of the United States of America has significant power to shape the legislative agenda.

A quick google search brings up FactCheck.org, which notes that, according to Congressional Quarterly's voting studies, in 2007 McCain voted in line with the President's position 95% of the time, and with the Republican party 90% of the time. In contrast, Obama voted in line with Senate Democracts 97% of the time.

You should try google out one of these days. It works really well.

"If Governor Palin and John McCain want to define ‘change’ as voting with George Bush 90% of the time"

Hey, I thought it was 95% of the time. Which is it? And what are they talking about because the president doesn't vote, so how do you vote with him?
