So, did y'all have fun last night?

I know we did — and yes, as far as I know, we’ll be doing it all over again during the English language debates tonight, although this time, I won’t be hovering over Colleague Wherry’s shoulder in the media room, but will be glued to a different screen, surrounded by various and sundry Hill-ites and political junkies at a debate-watching party hosted by the Public Policy Forum. Oh, and I’m also going to be back outside the NAC for Sign War II, although this time, I’m bringing mittens, and possibly a flask of hot chocolate.

In the meantime, though, I wanted to give y’all a heads up that I may be slightly tardy with today’s Ekos numbers, since I’m heading to federal court to see Democracy Watch in action. I don’t know if I’ll be able to liveblog it, but I’ll do my best to report back as soon as I’m able to do so. I’ll set up an openish thread, though, so as give commenters someplace to chat about the numbers.

I liked the format, sitting around the table.
I thought Ms. May did very well, along with M. Duceppe and M. Dion. I’d rate them – Dion, May a close second, Duceppe next, and Layton and Harper tied for last place.

I too enjoyed the format and thought everyone did quite well all things considered. Dion didn’t get all flabbergasted, Layton looks stronger every day this election, Gilles didn’t mention Sovereignity ONCE!, May tried her best not to cut people off and only resorted to name calling a few times (she has to watch that at debates) and Harper didn’t reach out and punish the children to try and play together nicely in the sandbox – overall I would say that the debate went much as expected and did exactly what most of our debates do and that is nothing except re-confirm the opinions poeple already had of whoever they preferred and maybe a few undecided out there took away a little something – the translation for the french I thought was really well done this time and someone deserves Cudo’s. I especially likie the warm and fuzzy moment where each had to compliment person on their left though you could tell Lizzie needs a bit of work in that area as when she had to something nice about Haprer (which I almost fell off my chair as I saw that coming when Stevie was to her left :)and then she had to resort to he is a good father after a serious pause for the cause! The Harper complimenting Layton was very well done and Gilles and Dion well I can’t even remember what they asid – not a good sign!

So, when are the ITQ commentators going to get together and have their debate? We could gets Wells to moderate, Kady liveblogs the whole thing. Come on, who wouldn’t want to hear Wayne and boudica fight it out?

This idea is either wonderful or terrible.

I thought the format was dreadful. There were no opening and closing statements in which each leader could highlight his platform without being shouted down. The “debate” on the economy did not allow enough time for each leader to say what he was going to do. Each did not have the time needed to layout a complex solution. There was very little policy discussion and a great deal of attacking each other, which is “same old” stuff. We have heard it all before.
