… those are the latest numbers from Harris Decima, apparently. (No link yet, but I’ll add one as soon as it goes up.) Also – and this just seems too crazy to believe, so I guess we’ll see – for the first time ever, the Most Leaderiest Prime Minister in the History of Ever is one point below the European-schooled sociologist when it comes to having a “favourable impression” : 40% – a new low – with Not A Leader at 41% (Unfavourable impressions: 51% to 48%, respectively.)

Conservatives: 31 (-)

Liberals: 27 (+1)

NDP: 20 (-1)

Greens: 12 (-1)

Bloc Quebecois: 8 (-)

You trying to copy Kady, Bruce? She’s already posted it ;)

    Here’s some nice regionals though:

    Ontario:

    Libs 34, Cons 26, NDP 24, GP 15

    Quebec: BQ 36, Libs 28, Cons 21, NDP 10, GP 5

Harper shouldn’t have copied failed attack ads from Australia I guess.

How can you[z]e boys and girls ignore the Harper DIKTAT? He said, according to the Globe, on Oct 4-5 “he’s got to have a majority” or else he will have to introduce NEW legislation on fixed-election dates.”

He is backing water furiously, offering revisions to his earlier “absolutely must have” ideas. It’s a matter of CONFI-DETS, don’t you see?

  • Wascally Wabbit

G*d just told me its gonna keep raining on the CPC…but not forty days – just six…

Nik is Noking out the tablets write now…

Kady – What did Kadydid – she did a Gwen Ifill on the ConBots…

    no

    really

how can you do worse than the Liberals in Quebec?

I’m thinking, if you really wish to know, you might go to the Globe web page for a “quick boo” … under Harper’s most-recent metamorphosis into an em[pathetic] human being in the total interest of election expediency.

Sorry I couldn’t be more cynical, but words of more than 3 syllables sometimes throw me.

Hey, whatever happened to those Strategic Counsel battleground polls? You know, the ones where Donolo calls 20, 30 people in a riding per night and then forms opinions based on what they say.

As much as this must be reenergizing the Libs, they must be awfully nervous about firm NDP/Green support.

I wonder what’s motivating folks to resist a decent opportunity to unseat the Conservatives? I don’t even see the NDP as putting forth a platform that is arguably more progressive or left-leaning, in comparison to the Libs. And while I understand the appeal of the Green Party, it’s hard to argue that the Libs and Cons are the same (i.e.: you’d think a Dion-Liberal government would satisfy most Greens, as opposed to the Conservative alternative).

Any thoughts or ‘water-cooler’ insights from folks on this?

I would argue that all the parties ideas seem the same to me, tweedledum,, tweedledee comes to mind.

They all have policies to fix global warming, increased spending overall is good, single payer health care, atm and cell phone fees they don’t like, abortion, subsidies for businesses … etc the list goes on and on and on.

They all seem to largely agree on policies but the details are different, which is why I think Canadians are bored senseless with elections.

Kleiner-Beiner reamed Harperoony’s posteriori for not keeping his promise on ‘royalty-income trusts’ Calgary Herald Sep 10 ’08 — Called it an Achille’s tendon-cy. I was on the verge of tearing the local MP’s head off at his all-candidates’ meeting … decided against it, and just left him mumbling to himself. I was complimented by the participants for not having to use the mic., which was cut off by the moderator.

Just a guess, but maybe it has something to do with those raft of abstained votes. It’s awfully hard to portray yourself as the sworn enemy of the government when you backed down from countless opportunities to defeat them.

Also keep in mind that the Liberals haven’t been out of office all that long. There are no doubt voters who, while not being in love with the Tories, still think the Liberals need more time in the penalty box.

  • http://scottdiatribe.gluemeat.com Scott Tribe

Note that Decima has higher support for the Greens (and marginally higher support for the NDP) then Nanos has had.

It’s all a question of how soft those voters are – particularly the Green’s I’d say, since I think I’ve seen poll surveys suggestion they’re the most likely to consider switching their vote to a 2nd choice.

All parties? Have you read Turning the Corner?

John [BIRDY-BOO!] BAIRD is the embodiment of Orwell’s lament on the extinction of the Fakawi … Appropriate Query: “Where The?”

His record at Queen’s Park was totally unblemished for undiminished idiocy, first on the Social file [look at Arthur Andersen now Accenture $.5 BILLION] and then Energy, post privatization attempt under Eves-Trough.

You’re incorrect if you’re saying similar … like virtually the same, only totally different. Sorta like … ‘Bali High is calling!’

  • Wascally Wabbit

Dennis – do you have a Warren Kinsella hiding under your Prouse?

  • T. Thwim

Other semi-interesting stuff, over at Michael Geist’s blog he talks about the resurgance of Bill C-61 from the Conservative platform. Several people over there have indicated that the issue is enough to make them move their vote — surprisingly, some from Harper’s own riding.

Not that it’ll make any difference (here in my Calgary riding, you could add up the votes of all the other candidates last election and the conservative candidate still had a 2-1 lead) but I find it an interesting little factoid.

  • Wascally Wabbit

Michael Geist also knows that – but for the one-time windfall gains of the Cellular Spectrum auction – Harper / Flaherty would be even deeper in the financial doo-doo!

  • Wascally Wabbit

Kind of reminiscent of Mikey Harris – aided by Eves / Flaherty – selling off Ontario’s assets at fire-sale prices – to try to pretty up THEIR budgets…
Shades of “Common Cents on the Dollar” policies all over again Eh?

  • Fred

Another pizza parliament – just more & smaller slices than last time.

Country very geographically divided. Rich, prosperous, strong economy West very pro CpC.

Struggling Ontario split Lib/CpC and City/elsewhere.

Quebec – doesn’t care who it blackmails for more money as long as the gravy train keeps rolling in the dough so they can pretend to be euro style socialists. If the crash & burn happens it will be truly ugly in Quebec where entitlements to entitlements is a cherished entitlement.

Maritimes – mostly Liberal and deathly afraid the Equalization could dry up in tough times.

We will go to the polls again in 6-9 months.
    Nothing is settled.

  • Sean S.

I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Harper used the phrase Common Sense during his interview with Mansbridge yesterday. What’s next? A photo op of the Prime Minister wiping his arse with an Ontario flag?

That gets a YABUT … Think Harperoony’s gonna get ‘praised’ for calling an election, after he declared ‘fixed-election dates’ were the ‘fix?’ I think the word he used was WHIM. What is it? $300KKK for Harperoony’s ‘fix?’
As commodities go, he’s in perpetual decline.

Harper gets a minority, it’s almost certain. But if Dion manages a modest gain in seat number, then Dion might just keep his job.

If Dion loses seats, Dion loses his job. Then the Libs essentially give a free hand to the Cons who will govern for at least 1.5 years while the Liberals tear each other apart looking for a leader. My money then is on Count Ignatieff.

  • Bruce

Serendipity; that’s pretty funny considering that Dion threatened to bring down the government at every turn, but when it came down to it the Libtards sat on their collective hands forty three times

ASSININE is still a donkey leading 9 horses.
Your ‘cutesy-wutesy’ is typical of a Tim Powers or Kory Ten-Acre mind-meld. Nobody in the Star Chamber can apparently develop a forward looking theme to engage the entire country. People are damned tired of the jingoist fare put out by the sub-human cluster
over there. What did Clement get by way of his visit to the DNC? An out-dated RNC agenda for NY four years earlier? Clement’s way of reassuring voters he doesn’t give a damn about food inspection consequences? The frequency of P-CRAP no-shows is becoming a pandemic. Are you all wearing bridles?

  • Mike T.

if the liberals are forced to hold another leadership contest, it won’t be anywhere near as long as the last one.
