What happens next?

Beats me – but I have a feeling that I’m going to need a nap first. I love you, democracy, but you can really wear a girl out.  Anyway, as I’m sure will come as no surprise, posting will be light-ish over the next day or so.  Feel free to use this as an openish thread – and I’ll be back soon, I promise — not tanned, most likely, but definitely rested and ready to go. Hold onto your seats this fall, kids – it’s going to be a bumpy – by which, of course, I mean fabulous – ride.

(Fear not – if anything earthshattering breaks, I’m sure I won’t be able to stay away.)

    Thanks very much, jwl.

I’m kind of pleased to see his reaction to CTV. It often astounds me when politicians don’t act human. Frightens, more like.

Okay, can we have a discussion on this bail-out of the banks?

    We’ve already spent 25 billion–and I don’t know where that’s coming from.

Now, we shall most likely either be forced to guarantee deposits, or take an ownership in the banks. I’m not sure where any politician gets off suggesting
“- take steps to ensure Canada’s financial system is not put at a competitive disadvantage” and
“- keeping government spending focused and under control”
as if they’re not mutually exclusive.

But so let us discuss whether it would be best to guarantee deposits or take an equity position.

We already guarantee deposits up to (well, more than I have so I don’t worry about it) and our banks are basically sound, especially with the 25 billion of risky mortgages off their books. So is there really a huge risk to increasing the guarantee amount? On the other hand, if worse comes to worst, can we bankrupt the country by doing so?

I really can’t see the advantages or disadvantages to owning the banks. Or, really, why the banks would want us to.

Jenn, the article jwl (unsuprisingly) rather understates what Dion did. He had the RCMP attack the reporter to keep him away. You know, the same thing that the Conservatives got blasted for when they kept reporters away from Donna Cadman.

Watch this video and see for yourself. Note how CTV is much more…understanding…of having the RCMP sicced on them when it’s done by a Liberal.

John G. You still believe in the myth of the Liberal MSM?

    The video doesn’t show anything.

Btw, CTV trying to make up for the sandbagging with Lloyd praising him after his debate rings awfully hollow.

CTV deserves to be on the bottom of the media list for Liberals.

    bah
    debate should be defeat

john g, if that is the effectiveness of an RCMP “attack”, I think we have a lot more to worry about–the guy didn’t even lose a breath. He didn’t lose his footing since he continued to be right beside M. Dion the entire way down the hall, nor did I see an RCMP officer in the picture (not to say one wasn’t there). But way to go CTV for trying to make the moment all about them–long before M. Dion spoke. And good for him! I did feel sorry for Lloyd Robertson, who I think was sincere, and a bit ashamed of his network.
