Is that a confidence motion I see before me?

Well, on CPAC, that is.

The Bloc Quebecois just proposed an amendment to Government Business #1 – which proposed that the House “take note” of the the possibly-soon-to-go-down-in-Canadian-political-history-as-the-worst-idea-EVER economic and fiscal update. The Bloc, however, appears to feel that the motion would be more reflective of, you know, reality if the motion were rewritten to condemn the EFU instead, which sounds an awful lot like a matter of confidence to ITQ. Poor Barry Devolin – who is currently in the Chair for what must be just his second or third day as a deputy speaker – looked utterly gobsmacked, although to his credit, he didn’t leap out of the Chair, toss off his robes and run screaming from the House, so maybe he does have a future in this gig. He took the motion under advisement, so I guess we’ll have to wait until Peter Milliken shows up to find out if this motion can go forward. If it does, the House may decide the fate of the Conservative minority government much sooner than expected.

mike Dec 1, 2008 14:07 You people are so blind

Well Mikey, over here at the CNIB we’ve been waiting for an empathetic individual like yersen.

Just “give from the heart,” and we won’t ask for a chest x-ray.

Dr Riff Dec 1, 2008 14:01 “voting is a right not a privilege you pay 2 bucks for”

With that one, you are BANG ON. Why I can recall Jim Flaherty accepting an $80,000 privilege payment, during the Ontario PC leadership campaign … if he would “use his influence” to seek the granting of a VLT/SLOT license for the smallest Ontario racetrack … resulting in a gross revenue of $1 Million per month. That’s why I insist your comments are so very very very very true!

Sorry Kady … I know you insist on proper attribution. The bold was taken from a Paul Martin speech.

That’s why I insist your comments are so very very very very true!

Interesting interpretation Adam. But wouldn’t scratching “take note” and inserting “condemn” satisfy the test of “[not straying] from the main motion but aim to further refine its meaning and intent]?

    Fred:

    1. Six cabinet seats, apparantly. Probably also a deputy prime minister.

    2. Not known yet, could be more, could be less than the conservatives paid a few years ago.

    3. Ask Mulrooney.**

To inject a somewhat sobering note, The Last Great Emperor, Byron of Muldoon, Ka-Ching Ka-Ching Dynasty has been virtually unavailable for comment since he spontaneously suggested his integrity would prove to be “intact” and “that could only be proved through a Public Inquiry.” Now he’s left to wonder … WTH made such a suggestion? At our country club, we play the 4-question game quite well.

    1. Did you take the money? NO

    2. Did you take the money? NO

    3. Did he take the money? YES

    4. Then where the hell is the $2.4 Million libel settlement Alan Rock paid him?

I am struck by the contempt that the PCP has for the rest of Parliament. And they just don’t listen. It was very clear that the Bloc’s political agenda isn’t to split Canada. During the election Gilles said very clearly that it was his mission to stop Harper from getting a majority. And when the wheels of government started turning again with the PM acting as though he had a majority, he shouldn’t be surprised if someone should do something to derail him.

ITQ ? EFU? I’m sure I’m not the only one tired of acronyms. Their use completely obscures the lead article, to the uninititiated, which may be why the content of the lead article is not what is being discussed by these many interesting comments. JV
