on her richly deserved victory! (And to all the other winners as well, of course.)

Well, if pointless pettiness makes you happy, feel free to indulge. Not that you need my permission, of course.

  • John Whent

Reminds me of those games kids used to play where everyone was a winner because nobody wanted to hurt anyone’s feelings.

I remember the good old days when kids could aspire to be the best, rather than be browbeaten into being like the rest.

Helps explains the complete lack of initiative I see in every single new university grad that we hire..well, except the few that come from American universities.

  • John Whent

Man, I was going to go with “retentive”, but you’ve already bested me.

Pretty ironic coming from a guy with the initials SS.

the folks who know of Brittany Spears don’t look to her for her writing talent or insight,

So my comparison of Steyn to Spears works on more than one level.

DO NOT MAKE ME INVOKE GODWIN’S LAW ON THIS ENTIRE THREAD! Whoops, sorry, just having an all-capsy moment. Anyway, I only just found out about the contest thanks to a friendly reader who passed along the link, but congrats to the organizers for putting it together, and thanks to all those who voted, whether for ITQ or Wells or anyone else. Yay!

  • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

Okay, that’s it. The ITQ foot, she is going down. James, stop being unpleasant to other commenters. Other commenters, stop being unpleasant to James. Follow the example of our Prime Minister! (Check my latest to see what I mean by that.)

  • http://myblahg.com Robert McClelland

Can we still be unpleasant to Steyn?

  • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

Provided he doesn’t show up in the comments, yes. And me. You can be unpleasant to me.

  • Sean Stokholm

    sorry ’bout that…

  • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

S’okay. Just having one of those odd moments of peace-love-and-understandingness, and feel the need to inflict it on everyone else. I’m sure it will pass.

    Kady,

Congrats on the silver medal. Bronze is so… degrading.

I don’t understand the silly answers. All of the writers in this award are paid writers because they have talent and they have paid their dues in journalism. There are more than a few of us who would give our left [insert object here] to finish last in this category. Politics aside, we should give credit where credit is due.

You should combine your votes with Paul Wells’ votes, and proclaim yourselves the victors!

    ***
    winner by coalition! Awesomesauce!

  • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

Aw, Olaf. Next year, I’ll totally go door to door for you. I’ll even put up a sign!

  • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

Raphael – Y’all deserve huge credit for pulling it all together – no matter who wins. (And you meant “left cookie”, right? We’re all about the cookies here on ITQ tonight.)

  • Jack Mitchell

COOKIE MONSTER for PMO DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATION!!!

  • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

Well, we already have the Count over at OLO, so that would work out nicely. Now you’ve made me start matching various Hill denizens with muppets. I curse you, macleans.ca poet laureate!

  • Sean Stokholm

Layton as Sam the Eagle (different politics, but a similar delivery style these days).

Baird and Flaherty as the aliens who alternate between “yep yep yep yep” and “nope nope nope nope”, or maybe Baird as Guy Smiley and Flaherty as the Swedish Chef (trying to catch the economic policy and stick it in the pot)

Harper as Bert? (I can totally see him with a paper clip collection)

Duceppe as Gonzo? (kinda weird, but ultimately likeable)

I really want to think of a pair to be Stadler and Waldorf.

  • Jack Mitchell

    What have I done . . . What have I done . . .

    Gonzo: Iggy

    Rae: Dr. Bunson Honeydew

    Dion: Beaker

    Layton: Fozzie

Stadler & Waldorf: Casey & Arthur!

    Animal: Peter Van Loan

Kermit: why, the Speaker himself, the Hon. Peter Miliken

  • madeyoulook

I note, with only a slight hint of mischief, that you have avoided assigning Miss Piggy to anyone…

  • Jack Mitchell

Oh, wait, the Count is already the Count. Quite right, Sean, Duceppe is Gonzo. Man, this gets addictive.

BTW, likewise sorry, ITQ, for taking that troll’s bait earlier & lowering the tone. Did that carol to try and attone. Peace on earth!

  • Sean Stokholm

Dion as Beaker is frigging hilarious.

  • Jack Mitchell

Layton as Sam the Eagle is totally right-on, just dye the feathers.

    Baird as Guy Smiley, awesome!

Harper as Bert works pretty well! But who does that make Ernie?

  • Sean Stokholm

Tough one. Stockwell Day? It doesn’t really work, but he’s sort of the goofy one.

  • Jack Mitchell

No, I think that’s great for Stockwell / Ernie.

    Oscar the Grouch?
