Great moments in amended press releases: [Insert outraged MP here]

Oh, how I’ve missed you, Ryan Sparrow – and I’ll cheerfully admit that it took me far too long to spot the difference. (Next time, I won’t forget to check the French text.)

The amended version of the Conservative Party’s release on the return of Borys Beryl Wajsman (link when available):

IGNATIEFF DOIT S’OPPOSER AU RETOUR DE WAJSMAN

OTTAWA – Le député conservateur Christian Paradis a exhorté aujourd’hui le chef du Parti libéral, Michael Ignatieff de se dissocier de Beryl Wajsman et de s’opposer à son retour au sein du Parti libéral du Canada. Borys who????

  • Ti-Guy

    “Borys” Wajsman?

Anyway, The Conservative Party of Canada….where the action is XXX!

  • http://www.illegalcurve.com AMM

    His name is Beryl.

    • herringchoker

Oh Beryl? You mean the guy they profiled in this weeks Macleans? He was my favourite sponsorship guy. Lots o’ pizazz and he really despised Martin & Lapierre. I’m glad things are working out for him, now that all the envelopes full o’ cash have gone by the boards.

    • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

It is an inescapable law of irony that every spelling flame contains at least one spelling error. But it’s fixed now!

  • john g

Oh goody. While Liberal back room operatives toss around racist slurs towards the Chinese and try to bully and threaten public broadcasters to uninvite guests he doesn’t like, thank God Kady is still here to jump all over the Conservatives for letting a press release out too early.

    • Ti-Guy

Oh goody. While Liberal back room operatives toss around racist slurs towards the Chinese and try to bully and threaten public broadcasters to uninvite guests he doesn’t like,…

      Oh, let it go.

      • mjh

Much too delicious to let go; “barbequed cat”–yumm!

    • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

I don’t believe I’ve defended any of those things, johng. In fact, I suspect if you were to search the macleans.ca archives, you would find that I have made exactly one reference to the individual of whom you speak, and it was not terribly positive.

      • john g

That’s my point. You’ve made only *one* reference. Presumably ages ago.

He’s self destructing over there. Given how you went after the Little Shop of Tories for much of the same frat boy behaviour, I can only conclude from your lack of comment that you approve of all of it.

If you don’t, then why is not worthy of your comment? It damn well would be if it were Sparrow who was the perpetrator.

  • john g

And how ironic that in your own haste to issue your own post bashing the Conservatives erroneous press release, you couldn’t even bother to get the name of Beryl Wajsman correct.

See? I can make petty comments about typos and erroneous blog postings too. I usually don’t bother because it’s…well…petty.

Kady you are an excellent writer…surely you are capable of better than this? If the well is running dry thinking up new ways to bash the Conservatives, perhaps you should cast your glance across the aisle once in a while. There are 3 other parties in the Commons you know, and none of them are perfect either…

    • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

Sometimes I think that you have inadvertantly installed some sort of specialized web filter that methodically removes every post I make in which I criticize the Liberals, the NDP or – admittedly, this is far less common – the Bloc Quebecois. That, or you just don’t read them.

      • john g

Well Kady I’ve admittedly only been reading your blog for about the last year or so. In that time I can probably count on the fingers of one hand your posts that criticize any other party (other than in passing in a post dedicated to blasting the Conservatives). Well, you criticized the Liberals recently, but only for not trying to keep the Cadman story alive any longer, and thus providing fresh fodder to go after the Conservatives on it. Perhaps you could point me to a few recent ones?

I understand that the Conservatives are the government and thus should get most of the attention. That’s fair.

I don’t know how many posts of yours I’ve read about the “Little Shop of Tories”, but I know damn well that if the “Little Shop of Tories” had tried to bully the CBC into dropping a guest, or mocked a Liberal MPs religion (again) with a “Fred Flinstone celebrity endorsement” , or made itself the news story with a racist comment, I’m pretty sure you’d have a thing or two to say about it, dripping with your usual sarcasm.

Kinsella is proving himself every bit the juvenile frat boy that you went after with gusto when it was the Conservative war room. But even though you claim your opinion of Kinsella is low, his gutter tactics somehow manage to fall beneath your radar; even though he was handpicked by Ignatieff to lead the Liberal War Room. If as you say your pen cuts both ways, surely the legendary “ITQ Fairness Doctrine” would require that the nasty, disgusting, partisan antics of the Little Shop of Liberals are every bit as worthy of comment as the Little Shop of Tories? Particularly for one whom you say you don’t like, and who is making a point of stepping in it regularly?

        • cwe

I see Kady criticizing the other parties all the time, john g. I’ve even thought a couple of times about keeping a little cache of them somewhere for occasions such as this, but then I don’t bother because I know you wouldn’t really appreciate a whole bunch of evidence interfering with your favourite thesis.

      • Kaplan

Sometimes? Inventing media bias is a full-time job for these people…

Beryl’s return to the Liberal Party will not happen (at least in Quebec).

Already Denis Coderre, Brigitte Legault , Robert Fragasso and a host of others are moving to ensure that Ontario Liberals (A. A.) dictate what happens in their province.

There was a good reason that Beryl was banned, for life, to be in anyway associated with the Liberal Party.

Liberal bigwigs in Ontario should leave Quebec’s internal party politics alone.

  • Anon

Wasjman has been alternatively known as Beryl, Borys and Boris.

Depends who he was trying to duck and when

  • madeyoulook

So do I need to take safe-search off if I want to google monsieur Paradis?

  • Gary

    Wai 2 rip them a 2 won, K.T.!

  • hosertohoosier

Nuts on that retraction. I was hoping the Conservatives had finally embraced a strong pro-porn stance.

  • LeslieE

A little anxious to get that out.
    XXX indeed!

  • http://www.macleans.ca Kady O’Malley

Just a friendly note to anyone out there who does, in fact, issue press releases on occasion: the second-best way to get a reporter to actually read one is to put out an amended version, because that instantly makes us wild with curiosity over what was changed. (The best way? Send out a frantic notice retracting it.)

    • David

      That’s funny. Makes sense though.

    LMAO!
