Captain Jack

Though surely too good to be true, the photographer assures that this is indeed a real photo of Jack Layton dressed up in a Star Trek uniform.

A request for confirmation has been filed with the NDP.

Update. Susan Delacourt with the scoop. Olivia Chow confirms legitimacy of photo. Says uniform was custom-made and “very form fitting.” Developing.

I believe this calls for a systematic breakdown of the NDP caucus along Star Trek TNG lines. I’ll start the ball rolling with the obvious one:

    Mulcair = Riker

Take it away number one -

Olivia says they are Trekkies not Trekkers.

Sometimes I think about getting into politics, then I think of all the pictures that are out three. Oh, the pictures. Damn you undergrad!

As for the game at hand, I’ll deviate a bit from Jack’s parameters and just say that John Baird kinda reminds me of Worf, especially in the brow area.

    Sulu + Uhura = Olivia

In looking their caucus over via the above page, I’m struck by the proportion of men with facial hair in the NDP. Jack envy?

I have no facial hair. When they start quoting Homer, I’ll start blushing.

    Awesome.

Not a fan of Layton’s politics, but stuff like this, makes me smile. Jack just went up a notch in my book, notch 1.

PS:If Jack ever gets into cabinet through a coaltion with the LPC, he has to where that suit..

On Star Trek weren’t the red uniforms worn by security officers?

    • Lord Kitchener’s Own

      [Geek aside]

In the original Star Trek, yes (in fact “Red Shirt” is a whole type of character, the security officer who’s “primary purpose in the plot of a story is to die soon after being introduced, thus demonstrating the dangerous circumstances faced by the main characters”). In the “Next Generation” series though, red became “Command” and yellow became Security and Engineering (I’m guessing the producers just liked the red better, and wanted Captains an commanding officer to be in red). That’s a “Next Generation” uniform that Mr. Layton is sporting.

Maybe his undoing in this episode will be at the hands of the husband/boyfriend of the young woman he appears to be admiring so happily…

Well, maybe there’s hope for him yet.

    Live Long and Prosper.
