Oh yeah, well, I sleep under a seal skin duvet. So there.

Adrienne Clarkson is unimpressed.

“I’ve eaten raw food here since 1971. It’s nothing new to me, okay?” Clarkson told The Canadian Press this weekend. Both women were attending an arctic gathering hosted by Clarkson’s husband John Ralston Saul. ”I have a lovely seal skin coat. . . I’ve eaten raw food since 1971 – and there you are.”

I've eaten raw food here since 1971. It's nothing new to me, okay?

    Me too. Carrots, apples, grapes…

    What happened in 1971?

The main difference between the two is that Jean doesn't come across as a know-it-all royal wannabe.

She possesses a natural grace and humility which is a winsome combination.

    Eat your heart Adrienne.

No no, it works either way.

Exactly right, Jarrid. The real difficulty, moreover, is that Clarkson believed the GGship should be a hereditary post–hers until death followed by her kids or maybe John Ralston as perpetual regent. What a jumped-up nonentity she was and is.

We'll try that one more time, "Eat your heart out, Adrienne."

I didn't realize Governors-General were in competition with each other. I admired Adrienne Clarkson when she was our Governor-General, although the expenditures were a bit too high. But this is Michaelle Jean's time, and she gets to put her own stamp on the position–she doesn't have to do it as a compare-contrast exercise.

Word on the street is that Kinsella and the boys want to capitalize on this popularity to be gained from the " I ate wild meat raw in the North " craze sweeping the nation. Iggy will announce tomorrow that on a visit last year he ate some raw polar bear a$$.

i feel embarrassed for Adrienne Clarkson.

Unless the context was one of mock "me too" self-deprecating competition, I agree. I would want to know the extent of any twinkle in her eye and chuckle in her voice when she said that.

I sense a new reality show for Newsworld to air in lieu of politics.

Umm, yeah. And how knowledgeable was Adrienne Clarkson in 1971 about Canada? Better yet, how knowledgeable was she when she became GG? I'm sure she had a few things she had to learn too.

As it is, all she sounds like is a little petulant child. All she needs to do now to get into parliament as a politician is have it reported that she called a minority a racist of the same minority they belong to, and claim that eating raw seal is evil.

Petulant, racist, and hypocritical…the divine trio to getting fast tracked into Harper's cabinet.

I'd have been really impressed if for an encore Jean had whipped out the genuine Saskatchewan seal skin bindings.

  • Critical Reasoning

Interesting rivalry between Clarkson and Jean. Personally, I think Jean is doing a great job.

Critical: I've seen positive reviews of Jean a number of times but always without elaboration. I'm curious: Why do you think she "is doing a great job"?

Oops…forgot to say great post! Looking forward to your next one.

Rex Murphy was all over it yesterday on C-CC. Most comments were made in the the context of the trip to the North and the eating of seal heart; one caller thought she had "good common sense," most others believe that in general, she comports herself well.
At least one caller did not care for the way they saw her conflating subsistence hunting with commercial hunting.
