The case of the missing binder

by Aaron Wherry on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 11:40pm - 11 Comments

Lisa Raitt pulls a Bernier.

Sensitive government documents left behind at a CTV News bureau reveal Ottawa has poured far more money into the aging Chalk River nuclear reactor than the public has been told.

The binder of documents was left nearly a week ago at CTV’s Ottawa bureau by either Minister of Natural Resources Lisa Raitt or one of her aides. Some of the papers are clearly marked “secret.”

"The binder of documents was left nearly a week ago "

What I want to know, just how long until somebody noticed the documents were gone? Doesn't exactly convey a sense that the Minister and her staff are on "top of the file".

As far as I'm concerned, the information in those documents should be public knowledge. The taxpayers have a right to know.

So much for the accountable, open, transparent government Harper once talked about, eh? "Accidentally keeping promises through security blunders"

Although to be fair, the article says there are many documents and some were labelled secret. Although it does say there is an spending item not set out in budget documents, it doesn't quite say that public spending was marked semi-classified.

Fortunately the Access to Information Act is getting fairly superfluous these days.

      Indeed.

Oh yeah, this government just exudes competence, eh?

Well I think these elected officials could use a refresher on security policy. Really, these documents should never have left official offices without proper registration and supervision.

It was a trap designed to expose the liberal media for what they are. If CTV had returned the binder without question or comment, they would be okay. But they read what was in it and told the public about it instead. This is the clearest example yet of the liberal media bias.

cwe, you have no idea what you are talking about. CTV is the most pandering, pro conservative outlet out there.

You have been listening to too much Limbaugh.
