This should actually only make John Baird more popular in Ottawa, right?

So, if you can presume privacy through ignorance, does that mean they can now retract anything said to a reporter because "Well, I didn't think you were going to quote me!"

Raitt. Baird. Poilievre. … The Conservative Party of Canada sure is loaded with classy people. This is the best we can do for our "leaders"?

The sad thing is the voters of rural/suburban Ottawa will be cheering these guys on.

I'm a 416er and I think Baird is waiting until an adult is running this city to give any money.

A quick internet search of other streetcar contracts announced by Bombardier around the world would reveal that the Toronto price is 2-3x higher per car. An investigation of this might show that Toronto has ridiculously over-specced its Streetcars.

Baird's point is defensible; during Miller's time in office he has a track record of accomplishing nothing.

Not saying he delivered the message in the right way, but I don't trust Miller with the money I pay in property taxes, let alone hundreds of millions of additional stimulus money. I have to pay my taxes. Baird does not have to give David Miller a dime.

As an aside, hopefully someday a journalist will actually cover why the bid for the Toronto streetcars is so high.

      "…Toronto has ridiculously over-specced its Streetcars…"

You mean like by insisting that they don't derail when they take a corner, and don't need to shut down for four months of the year due to snow?

There's no mystery to it, no news exposé required – the streetcars are more expensive than off-the-shelf solutions because they must adapt to Toronto's streets – not the other way around.

You say you're a 416er but you sound more like a 905er with your ignorance.

No, Nick, jobs at the Bombardier plant in Thunder Bay, the old Canada Car plant that was started with stimulus money from another era. The same Thunder Bay where shipping, forestry and mining related industries are shut down or emitting a tiny wisp of steam as we speak. They elected NDP candidates last election.
