Last night on the National, Havard Gould attempted to figure out how the Prime Minister defines “implemented.” Segment starts at about the 11:45 mark here.

So would we expect the government to approve projects without the due diligence required and just write a cheque?

The wheels of government are notoriously slow, the proverbial red tape is always present and rightly so, would we want another billion dollar boondoggle? Oh that was so long ago – with the cost of inflation it would be a trillion dollar boondoggle today.

Oh c'mon.. the softwood lumber giveaway wasn't that long ago.

      Yes, yes we do.

        Your link is not working.

Yeah, except that the "billion dollar boondoggle" was later found to actually consist of 0.3% of that amount.

Seems like their 'bail-out' money for the media has been flushing out the system pretty quickly. And from what many mayors said at their meeting last week, there are projects aplenty awaiting the federal side of the check-cutting. Seems many are only hanging up on the fact that its not a CON riding…

I don't understand that argument Rockfish. Why would the Conservatives provide federal money only to Conservative ridings? Wouldn't it be better for them to want to pander to ridings they want to win in order to gain a stronger government? Like – all of Quebec!

In case you haven't noticed, the Harper party is sinking in the polls lately. His concern is rapidly becoming about maintaining his minority, not increasing it. Also, if the money goes to non-Harper ridings, then the message of "Isn't our party great" gets muted because you have an opposition MP standing there alongside the whatever minister sending the news. And since the people in the riding can't vote for the minister, who will they remember come voting day?
