Peace in our time

Tim Powers predicts as much, though perhaps merely in an attempt to seem more conciliatory than Mr. Silver. On a side note, we should stop describing our version of democracy in terms that imply some sort of painful burden. Iranian readers may find that unseemly.

Tim Power needs to get a life

Iggy crapped the bed big time today. The Liberals had flubbed this from the start. If there was never any plan to go to an election, they should have stood up and said they were going to pass the estimates. To get as far as they did today meant they should have been willing to pull the plug. They offer nothing of substance today, just vague generalities and they may not even get that. While most of the electorate may already be at the cottage, Ignatieff may have done some serious damage to himself in media circles. Will they all turn on him now? No, but I would imagine he is starting to shape a pretty unflattering image of himself as a national leader. This was easily his worst week since becoming Liberal leader. No clear position, waited too long to act, and looks like he'll follow in the footsteps of his predecessor and walk up to the edge of the cliff, and run back again after Harper throws a rock at him from the other side.

Iggy seems to be working hard to earn the label "Dion Part Deux" from the media, which collaborated quite effectively on the evisceration of the public persona of his predecessor. Does this guy not have any advisors?
