Confirming Kady’s account, a few official words from Mr. Ignatieff’s office.

They met for about an hour. It was a productive meeting. There will be another meeting later today.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall of that meeting.

"It was a productive meeting." = Iggy blinked.

If Harper bends it's worth blinking.

Maybe, but if Iggy muffs things like he did yesterday, he will have taken a massive step toward defining himself as Dion with a stronger vocabulary. That juuuuuuuust won't fly.

I would think "providing he doesn't muddle the message" should go without saying; however, I see why you said it.

They need a policy convention in the worst way. Worst.

If Harper bends, it's worth averting your eyes in anyway possible. Blinking if necessary.

And if my grandma had wheels, she'd be a wagon.

Both sides called it productive. Trying to read much of anything into that is silly, but don't let me stop you.

"Trying to read much of anything into that is silly, but don't let me stop you."

Fair enough. But that's the clearest thing the Libs have said in a few days. I'm still waiting on my team of forensic linguists to figure out what the hell they meant yesterday. :)

    Met for one hour!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's longer than their two press conferences combined; more time than they both spent together with Barack Obama.

And they'll meet again? What are they doing — planning a coalition government with Iggy as Prime Minister?

    • http://wordhunter.com Dennis

They're both trying to look like they're not precipitating an election they'd probably like to fight.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/Silly_Walks Silly_Walks

Yes. That's exactly what they're doing.

Stephen Harper views a meeting as either a solution or as a waste of his time. He is almost always sure it will be the latter. But he will test whether it is the former. What he will not abide is a meeting that is merely a prelude to more meetings.

    Good call, Mr. Wells.

I don't think you quite grasp Mr. Wells's point. The meeting between Harper and Ignatieff today was not a waste of time, or a prelude to more meetings. It just happened to be so important that it required more than the allotted 60 minutes, so it will be extended at some point later today.

So you think they're saying things to each other behind closed doors that are more productive, on either end or both, than the gratuitous posturing of the past few months in QP? On the one hand, anything would be more productive; on the other hand, why save the juicy, substantial stuff for in camera?

Unless Iggy bent over backwards so much that he was willing to sport a Reform Party T-shirt if necessary!
