Tina Fey makes good use of the Lorne Michaels machine. Not only Rachel Dratch and Tracy Morgan, but popular SNL hosts like Steve Martin and (obvs) Alec Baldwin. I believe Lutz is an SNL writer, too.

The example that immediately came to mind was Aaron Sorkin, although it's not so much as guest stars but just as outright stars of the new show. For example, Joshua Malina was in Sports Night, then The West Wing, and then Bradley Whitford was in The West Wing and then Studio 60.

As much as I liked PD this year, I have to wonder where Thomas takes it in the second season. Do all six of the regulars (or five plus Coolidge) return to PD Catering? Unlike, e.g., Friends or Seinfeld, in which people can go through all kinds of changes, PD only works if the characters choose to return to what is a completely dead-end job.
