  1. Laureen Harper is still that bright, flaxen-haired Prairie girl who grew up riding motorcycles and helping out at the ranch.

…and going to tax-funded galas with millionaire élites.

And, no (just in case you're wondering)–that'll never get old.

In case you were wondering, which clearly you weren't as that would get in the way of your partisan jabs (which are amusing I'll add).. This was a pubic reception, that was funded by the flimmaker himself. There were two receptions, one before, and one after the movie. The motorcycle pictures and those with James Moore were from his reception which had cheap wine. The reception after with the great food was not paid for by tax dollars. I suppose if you really wanted to get technical you could say that because Telefilm funded it it was tax-payer funded…but anyone could go anyhow.

Am I the only one starting to see the global recession as a secondary concern to the humour deficit?

          • Sir_Francis says:

Hey, at least he admitted I was "amusing". He just wanted to refine my perspective!

Ever hear of the way Charles Babbage responded to Tennyson's lines, "Every moment dies a man\\ Every moment one is born"? Babbage wrote the poet a letter:

"If this were true, the population of the world would be at a standstill. In truth, the rate of birth is slightly in excess of that of death. I would suggest: ‘Every moment dies a man\\ Every moment 1 1/16 is born’. Strictly speaking, the actual figure is so long I cannot get it into a line, but I believe the figure 1 1/16 will be sufficiently accurate for poetry'.

            Heh. Everyone's a critic…

That's "botted" flaxen hair, but works for her as she must have been blonde when she was young. I'd say her natural would be a mousy brown (how do you tell?) – look at her eyebrows.

  2. Apparently the movie was called One Week because test audiences said that's what it felt like.

  3. Chip says:

Anyone asking the question why her and Stephen havent been seen in public since 2008?

    • Sir_Francis says:

      together, you mean?

Division of labour, my dear Chip–a key facet of sound industrial practice: one of them attends tax-funded galas with millionaire élites, and the other denounces them. That's how they "get things done for Canadians"…

    • Bridget says:

Aha! Notice in the picture in front of the poster, she is not wearing a wedding ring (on her ring finger that is . . .).

      • MJ Patchouli says:

I wondered about that too, actually. Her ring finger is bare, but there's a wedding-bandish ring on her middle finger.

I dislike her husband but she always looks happy and warm.

    • Bryan L. says:

It is a pretty open secret that they have separated.

      • pmo's office friend says:

yup. confirmed to me tonite by a pmo office worker. laureen lives in a hotel. how could a woman live in a hotel for a year? awful. she is obviously..i'm guessing now…having one hell of a sex life with whomever she dumped him for, in order to tolerate the hotel. most women get the house! lol where are the press on this one?

  4. Dot says:

Harper likes the biker chicks. Wasn't he at one time Deborah Grey's assistant?

    • He was. In fact, he was Ms. Grey's assistant when he met Laureen. From the Macleans profile:

Friends were surprised by the coupling – Teskey is gregarious, Harper taciturn; she thrives on outdoor daredevilry while the asthmatic Harper prefers indoor cogitation. "He was so serious and so focused on politics it didn't occur to me he had the time or inclination for a romance," says Ablonczy. "I saw it as a good thing, thinking she'll bring him out of his shell," says Grey. That the rumpled Harper had "project" written all over him is believed to be part of the appeal for the can-do Teskey. Harper owned one suit, his shirts had buttons missing, and he drove a run-down Dodge bought at a police auction. "It was as if she was thinking, 'I can finish this guy off, round him out,' " says a friend. Another friend says Teskey was drawn to Harper's intellect and seriousness. "He's a really steady guy." "Laureen said it was the first time she had met a guy who could keep up with her," says Ablonczy. "She had such a keen interest in things and here was a guy who shared the same interest in current affairs." Harper's kindness to her family also won her heart. Saturday nights Teskey and Harper would often drive to visit her grandmother in Black Diamond where Harper would do all the cooking.

Ah, Wawa. I spent one week there one night …. h/t Lenny Bruce.

I'm waiting for the photo of Justin and the first lady driving off in the sunset.

What? My meds? Already? Thanks, nurse…

  7. MJ Patchouli says:

Are they split up? If so, are they both still leaders of the party?

  8. William says:

Since this post has reverted to the level of tabloid gossip, my contribution to the amateur silly rumour mill—What the heck is Del Maestro looking at ?——I don`t see any rings on Hall Findlay`—–and the way Pearson is looking at Justin`s hair like " gimme some `a that."

  9. OntarioTown says:

I don't think Martha Hall Finlay is married (divorced I believe). That photo of James Moore is weird – he usually looks like a jovial guy, but his eye look absolutely evil – hanging around Harper too long?

Maybe Loreen's ring is a little too loose, so she put it on another finger so as not to risk losing it.

  10. SimpleMassingPriest says:

And yet more fawning over PET's less talented offspring. Oi!
