Here In Toronto/Cincinnati, The Garbage Strike Continues….

by Jaime Weinman on Monday, June 22, 2009 10:37am - 6 Comments

There is a garbage strike in Toronto, and for those who are trying to figure out what to do with their trash, I have no good answers. But despite my admiration for Dr. Johnny Fever, I would not advocate the solution he came up with when Cincinnati garbage collectors were on strike against Mayor Jerry Springer (really, he was the mayor at the time), dumping garbage on the steps of City Hall. It does nothing to resolve the strike, and only leads to plot contrivances, the ensual (ensuing?) of hijinks that are frequently wacky in nature, and late-period Bob Dylan songs.

Don't let city workers ruin our great city

really people? is this really how people think? pathetic.

you don't think city workers deserve to have their rights listened to? whether they are correct on all issues or not, they gave 6 months for the issue to be resolved, and when their deadline wasn't met they striked. seems pretty reasonable to me – 6 months is time enough if you're not dragging your feet.

how about MAKING LESS GARBAGE. it's really easy.

and, Toronto doesn't stink, it is a wonderful place rife with potential.

Just a thought … If Toronto residents are really fed up being held hostage under mounds of garbage, why not simply dump your garbage off in front of those picket lines of striking civil servants? Similarly, why not dump your garbage off at municipal offices, police stations, the mayor's residence, the residence's of City councilors, etc.? Wouldn't that make cleanup easier once the strike is over? (Always think ahead!).

If anything, once opposing sides in this dispute are directly exposed to the rotting refuse they so flagrantly inflict on local citizenry, the smell alone might help remind them that their primary commitment is to the taxpayer!

Personally, and as a rural resident, I have no great love for the hopelessly gridlocked, multi-confused 'Big Smoke' or whatever misery its residents so willfully endure. It could be argued that the smell of rotting garbage is a noticeable improvement. It's all part of the "Manhattanization" experiment you sewer rats were all so fond of.

The biggest problem is that the public should not be paying for waste removal. Corporations are constantly finding ways to make cheaper, crappier goods that break nearly instantly and come in way too much packaging. Charge the entities that have turned our society into a high speed waste machine for the costs. . . .pay them well and let them keep their sick days. Most of us could not handle their work.

Taxpayers should get organized!! We should not allow them to take as hostages, they want us to pay them for the unused sick days – we have to pay more taxes for that and YOU CUPE employees do not wont to work .

Citizens of Toronto should voice there voice and bring in new legislations which will allows to hire private company and lay off unionizes worker, cut there stuff and make them work. We d o not want to pay more in taxes and new fees for using our libraries.. LETS GET ORGANIZED!!

GET rid of SYD RYAN !! He should think of his union how well they are cleaning the garbage, not the world politics…

Mr. Miller will will never forgive you for being SO SYMPATHETIC with the UNION. I hope you won't be re-elected!!
