Those Iranian soccer players who wore green on the field in solidarity with the protesters? Banned for life.

None of the team members were given back their passports upon returning to Tehran.

When Greece won the Euro cup back in 2004 (if memory serves well), the Greek government granted the team's German coach with an honourary Greek citizenship. Considering that these 4 Iranian players currently play for other countries' teams during the regular season, those countries should give these players something similar. This way, at the very least, the players can get passports and try to leave Iran.

Of course, Iranian officials could still block the players from leaving Iran, regardless of whether they hold passports or not.

that is just what the regime needs: a bunch of angry football hooligans running amok through the streets ;-)

I can flat guarantee you that Stephen Harper does not run the Canada China Business Council, which barred Christina Spencer from their event.

This regime should count its life in weeks. It's response to its peoples protests have revealed its true level of insecurity and corruption. Such petty actions of intimidation and suppression are nothing compared to firing on your own people, but do indicate this bunch of nutters has grossly outlived its rationale for existence.

Is anyone surprised by this type of reaction from Khamenei and the rest of the clerical thugs. Probably the result of brain damage from years of having your turban wound to tight.

According to niacINsight, the gov't appears to be planning to arrest Moussavi.

Iran was only allowed back in as of December 2006, so now FIFA should kick them out again, and ban all the other teams from playing exhibition matches against the replacements.

Glad you're staying on this Paul. I read headlines like Kate and Jon with the many babies divorcing, Perez Hilton boo hooing and wonder what in hell are people thinking?

I wonder what will hapen to Moussavi if arrested – no, I can't even think about it. It's frightening.

Bring them Canada. We need people with guts and we sorely need world-class soccer players.

I agree, sf. If the government of Iran ever gives back their passports, we should invite those soccer players to Canada.
