A congratulatory letter has gotten Jim Flaherty in trouble. See the original column here. And pics from the event here and here.

One of the dangers in courting extremist votes.. they sometimes want extremist policies enacted. Go figure.

Nice folks. I'm rather dim, so someone want to explain to me how supporting same sex couples automatically makes one pro-choice too?

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/Geiseric Geiseric

It's a simple matter of conformity.

      and I do mean simple.

See, here's where I think those folks are suffering from a lapse in logic. More gay unions means a) fewer pregnancies and thus fewer unwanted pregnancies that may result in abortion; and b) more childless couples who could provide homes for unwanted babies, thus another offset on potential abortions.

They just need to think of homosexual marriage as a cap and trade system for humans, instead of carbon. Breeders could be free to indulge their reproductive urges, so long as we ensure a corresponding supply of same-sex couples.

Problem solved. You're welcome, anti-abortion lobby!

      • Wotcher?

Only problem is, they don't want those homo-sex-yoo-als raising innocent babies to become homo-sex-yoo-als.

Normally, I leave the details and fine print of my brilliant schemes for others to deal with, but I've got a few minutes to spare this morning (and shed repairs I'm trying avoid).

          RE: Homosexuality is icky…

They need to focus and set their priorities. If terminating fetuses is truly a holocaust in their appraisal, then same-sex couples holding hands, swapping spit and rubbing gonads is an insignificant thing to get worked up about. You don't worry about weeds in the garden when the house is burning down. If it bothers anyone that much, they should go surf some adult sites and watch videos until they sufficiently desensitize themselves.

You're welcome again, anti-abortion lobby. But really, I think I've spelled it out enough for you to handle things from here on in.

They can't have babies. Therefore if you support them, you must be a baby-hater, ergo, an abortionist.

I hate babies; they make oopsies!

Worst of all, they accuse Flaherty of supporting the Homosexual Agenda:

    6:00 am Gym
8:00 am Breakfast (oatmeal and egg whites)
    9:00 am Hair appointment
    10:00 am Shopping
    12:00 PM Brunch

    2:00 PM
    1) Assume complete control of the U.S. Federal, State and Local
Governments as well as all other national governments,
    2) Recruit all straight youngsters to our debauched lifestyle,
    3) Destroy all healthy heterosexual marriages,
    4) Replace all school counselors in grades K-12 with agents of Colombian
    and Jamaican drug cartels,
    5) Establish planetary chain of "homo breeding gulags" where over-medicated
imprisoned straight women are turned into artificially impregnated baby
factories to produce prepubescent love slaves for our devotedly
    pederastic gay leadership,
    6) bulldoze all houses of worship, and
    7) Secure total control of the INTERNET and all mass media for the
    exclusive use of child pornographers.

2:30 PM Get forty winks of beauty rest to prevent facial wrinkles from
    stress of world conquest
    4:00 PM Cocktails
6:00 PM Light Dinner (soup, salad, with Chardonnay)
    8:00 PM Theater
    11:00 PM Bed (du jour)?

Flaherty needs to take this seriously and publicly kiss up to these extreme(ly godly) right-wingers, denounce abortion, pronounce his personal loathing of homosexuality and call for the legal abolition of all non-state-approved sexual acts.

If he does not, Canada's religious right is commanded by god to destroy his career. Any other outcome would damn them in the eyes of their god.

Gay people do not get up at 6am.

      • http://intensedebate.com/people/SeanStok SeanStok

        LOL!

  • Mike T.

Rumour has it the cad is also firmly in favour of allowing women to vote!

WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

    • Mitchel Raphael

I was at an event where he introduced himself as "Mr. Christine Elliott."

  • emceecee

wait, he *allowed* his wife to keep her name and lead a seperate career?!

  • GreenStand

And in one news cycle the Diane Ablonczy drama erases all the work you've been doing to try to convince everyone how progressive and evolved the Conservatives are. Sure, no one ever doubted that Jimmy or Stevie or JK hated the homos (I mean, they work with enough of them), but they catered to this groups – in fact they provoked anti-gay sentiment in order to get support! Where in history have been seen political movements using bigotry to gain political support? GOLLY!
Anyway the Libs made sure everyone thinks Ablonczy was demoted for giving money to the gays and now the Cons look like Neanderthals again. Boo-Hoo! You'll have to wait until next year's EGALE Gala to try again. Who's up for an award? Harris himself?

  • GreenStand

Should read: "Sure, no one ever THOUGHT that Jimmy or Stevie or JK hated the homos"
