Humbling to be sitting in Canada, having won the lottery of life decades ago when they cut the cord and my first gulps were of Canadian air, to be cheering these brave people on from afar. Would I have the guts to be one of those people if I grew up there? Would I encourage my kids to be a part of it? It's a big relief to not have to know the limits of my principled bravery.

Your software is not letting me post comment that's on topic. I get message that says deleted by administrator even though there are no swear words or other offensive thoughts.

I love chance to play kremlinologist for a few minutes everyday even though I have no idea what I am talking about. Rafsanjani led prayers today and I wonder what it all means because he has been rather bolshie the past few weeks kicking up a fuss about the elections and their legitimacy. Rafsanjani is also head of Assembly of Experts which has the power to remove the Supreme Leader.

I hope that these protests lead to something better. It's ironic how the regime has planted the seeds for their own demise; up to one million Iranian casualties in the Iran-Iraq war caused the authorities to offer money to families who had lots of children. It worked; the reason why 50% of the population (approximately) are under the age of 30. The "Baby-Boomerang Effect," as Christopher Hitchens calls it; a young energetic population that wasn't around during the revolution, and is becoming increasingly secular and pessimistic (especially the women) with the current Theocratic Islamic system. It may not happen with these protests, but no authority has been able to stop the will of the majority. I hope that these brave protesters will soon live in a country that is much more open and free, they certainly deserve it.
