Hey look: We found John Manley

From the latest print edition, my column, featuring the next head of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. He looks oddly familiar. He says interesting things.

I didn't know he was missing.
I guess I expect former public figures to quietly fade into the background after they do interesting stuff- it's the Canadian way.

A lot of them save time by fading away before they get to the "interesting stuff" part.

Sadly, even more of them end up on "reality" TV shows.

Looks like a good fit for a continentalist like Manley. He will provide continuity from d'Aquino.

Definitely something to look forward to.

Lady Godiva was a freedom rider
She didnt' care if the whole world looked.
Joan of Arc with the Lord to guide her
She was a sister who really cooked.

Isadora was the first bra burner
And you're glad she showed up. (Oh yeah)
And when the country was falling apart
Betsy Ross got it all sewed up.

        And then there's Maude.
        And then there's Maude.
        And then there's Maude.
        And then there's Maude.
        And then there's Maude.
        And then there's Maude.
        And then there's

That old compromisin', enterprisin', anything but tranquilizing,
        Right on Maude.

Stop jaw-jawing and go out and invent the next Twitter, you un-innovative Canadians!

I see him in my office building all the time…on the escalator, in the foyer, in the Shopper's Drug Mart.

He also sits (sat?) on Nortel's board of directors, and as such should be forever barred from holding public office or having anything to do with running a company.

Why didn't Paul Wells ask John Manley the tough questions about his complicity in the destruction of Nortel as a member of the Board of Driectors of Nortel?

Manley sat on a BOD who hired a CEO whose only strategy for Nortel was to outsource Canadian high tech jobs to Asia, Mexico, and Turkey. Manley sat on a BOD who let that CEO and his cronies used bankruptcy to loot the remains of Nortel for their own self-enrichment with retention bonuse, while leaving Nortel pensioners, employees, and former employees high and dry. Manley sat on a BOD that fired the two Gary's from Cisco who had a real restructuring plan for Nortel?

Why the lob balls, Paul? Why isn't John Manley being asked the tough question about Nortel?
