Oh Andrew, you forgot to bring out your violins for Karlheinz Schreiber, a distinguished German-Canadian businessman. Apparently, he has been whisked out of the country on a holiday weekend and did not have a chance to continue his 10-year appeal parade or finalize his 38 million-dollar law suit. Poor him. His human rights must have been violated somewhere - he SAID so!

The Harper Government has effectively gagged our Ambassadors, forcing them to have every communication vetted by, you guessed it, PMO. Our foreign service has been dismayed to see the actual language that they use being changed by rookie political staffers, as terminology used by the international community is not consistent with the CPC party line on foreign policy.

http://www.embassymag.ca/page/view/dfait-7-29-200...

Election please!

Over 30 years ago Canadian citizenship meant something. Personally, I felt that I could use the geographically-corrected words of St. Paul if ever facing a crisis with authority: Civitas canadensis sum! Translation: "I'm a Canadian citizen - back off and respect my rights!"

Thirty-odd years of political progress later, we have a Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and a citizenship debased to the level where anyone in any civil or executive authority can treat you as an asshole until you have established the opposite in court. It really is time we beat up on politicians, reestablished the limits of authority and got our rights and status back.
