Anyone know where a guy can get a carpetbag around here?

Former mayor Glen Murray considers running for mayor again. It’s the details — what he’s the former mayor of, and what he would like to be the mayor of now — that make the story interesting. And yet somehow highly unsurprising.

Hey, Inkless, Harper is from Toronto-Leaside, yet he is the Champion of the West. Why can't Westerners go East?

When Murray was in his last months as Mayor of Winnipeg, Harper had already been living in Alberta for 25 years. You could look it up.

To be fair, Murray has been running the Canadian Urban Institute in Toronto and has been actively engaged in Toronto civic life for several years now….

  • Andrew (not Potter or Coyne)

If he were from Hong Kong he wouldn’t be a carpetbagger. Winnipeg? Hold on a second!

Does anyone know where Susan Thompson is living these days? It sounds to me as though the being mayor of Winnipeg is becoming like being premier of Newfoundland. You get to keep the job for six to ten years but you have to move away when you're finished.

carpetbagger was my exact thought upon reading of Glen Murray as potential Toronto mayoral candidate.

He has demonstrable political skills, but the way he Palin'ed out as mayor of Winnipeg certainly calls his judgment into question. Noentheless, I suppose if Ignatieff can live in Canada for a few years and run as PM, Glen can live in Tawranna for a few and run as mayor too.

I have always enjoyed my conversations with Murray. But his political skills are kind of variable. I covered a town hall on his New Deal when he was Winnipeg mayor. He walked into a room that was deeply divided on the issue, and by the time he was done, they were united. Against him.

fair enough. he has the ability to be an inspiring public speaker. he spoke to a small gathering i attended and i was rather impressed. he should run for the libs in a a T.O. riding; not as mayor.

Will John Tory save money by running "Just Visiting" ads?

John Tory needs to run a Costanza campaign.

When you're the big part of the country or think of yourself as such, you don't care whether people are carpetbaggers.

Case in point: New York State and its parachute senators…
