Jean-Marc Fournier, former Quebec provincial cabinet minister, explains (in French, to La Presse) why he was so excited to work for Michael Ignatieff.

"L'ancien ministre de l'Éducation du Québec occupe depuis environ deux semaines le poste de conseiller principal du chef libéral fédéral, Michael Ignatieff."

Sorry, my French is a bit rusty; this translates roughly to "the downtown Toronto native who wears colourful shirts and pointy shoes joined the rest of the King West-hipsters to advise Ignatieff on how to screw-over grassroot Quebec Liberals as represented by the Quebec lieutenant", right?

Nope, you got it wrong, it's:

"Denis Coderre is Jean-Marc Fournier's pooch."

      You are welcome.

(hopefully I'm not being too crude? Please don't smite me mister moderator sir? I mean it's funny, no? No?)

And this is why we really need a macleans.ca-wide Commenter of the Week(tm Comics Curmudgeon) award.

I love it when journalists all talk to each other in that in-crowd dialect that the rest of find completely mystifying.

Then you'll love this place. I'm thinking Rob Silver loves being called a journalist.

Yet more evidence that Iggy just doesn't get political communication:

“The thought that this party is managed in Toronto makes me laugh. It makes people laugh in British Columbia, it makes people laugh in Alberta, it makes people laugh in the Atlantic provinces,” Mr. Ignatieff said. “I lead a pan-Canada formation.”

Well, I certainly think there's a lot of laughing going on. Gotta lead those formations, right?

He has a way with words, to say the least.

So why did Coderre wait until today for the big announcement that he is done like dinner? Meanwhile, for a week, every pundit in the country chimed in on the Outremont fiasco and the usual internecine Liberal squabbling. The general assumption was that Coderre was still the lieutenant.
