I noticed the US remake of Coupling was absurdly fast-paced because they literally took the original UK episode and compressed 30 minutes down to 20. In other words, maybe his problem is that he can't sustain the speed needed now without the pace feeling off. I tend to feel that every sitcom these days, even good ones, tends to be a bit fast on the pace compared to the older ones, almost like they're writing a full length show without accounting for the extra commercial time that's added now.
