4. Crosby, Ovechkin, or Malkin—who’s better?

While it seems like we've been debating this forever, Crosby (22), Ovechkin (24), and Malkin (23) are just now entering their prime—so get used to talking about it for many years to come.

Crosby, no questions. The just won a Stanley Cup , as captain, and he's what, 22?
    CROSBY!

AO – he plays hockey the way it should be played. He hits, he scores, and he skates. In the long run, Malkin will be the best. But not by much.

Crosby is not even really in the running. He is mostly a media created star because he's Canadian. If either Ovechkin or Malkin were Canadian, Crosby wouldn't even be a part of this debate. Crosby has had the utlimate homecourt advantage but both Ovechkin and Malkin have outperformed him even though they grew up in a different culture, learned hockey in a different system, didn't even speak the language…I could go on but you understand my point.

I have no clear #1, but Crosby is my clear #3 and until he can prove that he can get some goals (Ovechkin obviously gets a lot, but remember Malkin also got 47 in 07-08) he will remain there. People maybe argue that he scored quite a bit in the playoffs last yeat, but take his goals-per-game from those 24 games and spread them out over 82 and he'd have to get 51 goals to keep that pace. I hear no (sane) arguments FOR a 50-goal season for Crosby, so Crosby is still a step behind. Just wait until Vancouver when Ovechkin and Malkin play together and completely destroy everyone else (that will be the best line in hockey btw: Malkin, best centre; Ovechkin, best winger; And oh, let's throw in the second best goal scorer in the league, Kovalchuk, to fill in the blank. Yeah, scary ****.)
As far as the debate between Malkin and Ovechkin goes, it's still a toss up for me, but if the first seven games are any indication (Ovechkin: 7games, 7goals, 7assists) of what is to come, then I think Ovechkin(g) has this season already claimed.

I know this is real late, but just to say for your comments, Crosby got exactly 51 goals this year, and with a supporting cast which is much less talented then the Washington squad. What you said about Crosby's playoff scoring, I see the Capitals are out in round one against the Canadiens. OV doesn't perform in the most crucial of places does he? That Russian line, didn't do much against the Canadians did they, all the Canadians did was win the gold. Oh and the season is done, and who would know that Henrik Sedin would take it … too bad.
