Hey look: Holbrooke's getting a new temp

From the print edition, which this week is ridiculously entertaining in many ways, my column, about how things are changing on this side of the Atlantic, in response to events on the other side.

    Please expand on "ridiculously entertaining".
Is this cover story what is meant by "jump the shark"? Or is it just a policy of not doing anything by half measurers?

From Andrew Coyne's Wednesday post on the response to Harper's Beatle debut . "I think what we saw that night was official Ottawa transferring its allegiance. Power, they can sense, is consolidating in Harper’s hands. Now it was time to kneel and kiss his ring."
Is that what's going on in this weeks "ridiculously entertaining" edition of Macleans?

There is progress being made on Afghanistan, if you define “progress” narrowly enough.

I'm pretty sure you meant "…broadly enough", no?

The Canadian for Holbrooke was actually reported earlier by George Packer in the "New Yorker", Sept. 28 (p. 7):
    http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/09/28/090…

    "…
Holbrooke has taken over two suites of offices at State Department headquarters, filling them with a staff that has grown to some thirty people. (He had told Clinton that he would need around fifteen.) Nine government agencies, including the C.I.A., the F.B.I., the Defense and Treasury Departments, and two foreign countries, Britain and Canada, are represented in the office…"

Bit premature about the Canadian actually being there it seems.
