Doctors in Quebec in favour of euthanasia

Three out of four specialists say practice should be legalized

Quebec’s specialist doctors are overwhelmingly in favour of legalizing euthanasia, according to a survey conducted by their professional association. The poll by the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec found 75 per cent of doctors think the government should establish a legal framework that would allow them to help near-death patients accelerate their demise. The doctors are also urging the FMSQ to take a public stand on the matter. Nonetheless, 20 per cent of those polled say that even if euthanasia were legalized, they would refuse to perform it.

At least now we have an expert opinion on the subject. I'm a supporter of voluntary euthanasia, so my view may be biased. But I think it's a social trend we'd better start talking about soon, before gangs of teenagers killing old people on the street take the dialogue out of the well-reasoned realm.

No one has the right to decide to take someone's life. Doctor's are only guessing at the patient's prognosis and most oftenmisdiagnos. They administer lethal drugs, to patients in hopes of hiding their poor diagnosis, and their inability to problemsolve. ICU's are dangerous. This is the place where the FDA warnings about drugs and interactions are used to the disadvantage of the patient. How many times have patients died because of kidney failure- which really means that the most inappropriate drug has been administered to reach that goal of kidney failure – euphanasia.
