They appreciated the performance not as a fleeting glimpse of the Real Stephen Harper. They appreciated it as a strategic coup

Feschuk is forgetting that we live in a new era when most people have easy access to the youtube video, so attempts to portray it in a cynical Ottawa insider view is going to feel false; they saw the video and no amount of retelling a narrative around it will reform that impression. There is a quality of realness in video that totally eclipses anything in print and which often turns the tide on public opinion that had been based on print media. Sure there are a lot of political junkies on sites like this that can’t get enough of The Game, but that is a select and insular group.

" We don’t actually believe Stephen Harper has changed, become any warmer, grown or softened or evolved as a leader. But we admire him for being sharp enough to make it look as though he has"

We’re all political strategists now, conditioned by the media and the parties themselves to interpret everything through the prism of tactics and positioning"
Politics as a reality tv game-show!
I just know i'm going to wind up feeling sorry for this guy - eventually. After "we the audience" are through with him he wont know who the hell he was/is/or wants to be.
