Top 10 lead singers who ditched their bands
Sinatra says, 'So long, Dorsey'
Frank Sinatra rose to fame largely because of Tommy Dorsey, a band leader who asked the young crooner to join his group after a previous singer quit. Ol’ Blue Eyes’ recorded dozens of singles and released the biggest hit of his early career, “I’ll Never Smile Again.” Still, Sinatra was sour over his contract, but Dorsey refused to let him go. Rumour has it that the singer used his mob influence to “coerce” Dorsey into signing a release, but the record label MCA was behind the final purchase that led to Sinatra's iconic solo career.
