Steven Tyler leaves without saying goodbye

Guitarist Joe Perry says the band knew Tyler was tiring of Aerosmith, and that he was planning to quit for a long time. But his sudden announcement still came as a surprise—Tyler broke the news in an interview with Classic Rock magazine, and the band didn’t find out until the story was posted online. They were ready to move on and find another singer, but within the week Tyler had changed his mind. He showed up at one of Joe Perry's solo concerts, joined the band onstage for a rendition of "Walk This Way," and announced that he wouldn't be quitting after all.

This is the end of Aerosmith, and that's OK. They had a good run. One of the few 70s bands that had a successful 90s revival, but now their creativity has been drained, and all of their new songs have begun to sound the same … even to a fan. I was happy to see them in concert two years ago, but I am ready to let them go.

Joe Perry should forget about the Aerosmith name. Aerosmith is not Aerosmith without Tyler. It would be like Lynyrd Skynard without Ronnie Van Zant. Perry will have better luck with a new name.
