This book was good, but simply "good" is a major disappointment coming from Ellroy. American Tabloid and Cold Six Thousand were easily the two best novels I've ever read. Ellroy abandoned his machine-gun writing style for this one, returning to a more standard style of complete sentences and more descriptive prose. And it comes out all wrong. Still a good read, but NOTHING like its two predecessors.
