Air quality inside a home is usually two to five times worse then air outside, and and up to 100 times worse on cleaning day. But the biggest culprits making us wheeze—and the easiest to replace—are air fresheners. “They give off tholates, which are a family of hormone disrupters that are now being banned from kids toys. And yet, it’s perfectly okay for us to mist them in the air around our children.” Vasil says beeswax candles and essential oils smell great and are perfect replacements for harmful aerosol sprays and scented candles.

    I can't use oils, even "organic, essential ones" because of allergies. How about some house plants to suck crap out of the air. Try baking soda or vinegar to absorb odors. There are also some great odor eating products that are basically activated charcoal that I use under my sink by the garbage and compost bucket.

    Add fabric softeners, magic erasers, window cleaners; and all the other unnecessary cleaners to the list of toxic products most people use everyday without thought to their effect on your one's long term health. Carol is right… all you really need is water with vinegar, baking soda and some lemon juice. Cancer rates are increasing for a reason and this is one of the main culprits. P&G, SC Johnson etc… are to the 21st century what Rothmans and Phillip Morris were to the 20th century.
