The royal treatment
Why they came
For once the Canadian Forces was at the heart of a royal tour. Not only did the royal couple wear poppies - both the Canadian and British versions - everywhere, but their entire 11-day tour was packed with an unusually high number of military engagements, including presenting colours to Canadian regiments in both Toronto and Montreal as well as celebrating the 100th anniversary of the navy. And instead of the usual present, Canada is donating $250,000 in the royal couple's name to the Military Families Fund. Then, finally came Nov. 11, when Governor General Michaëlle Jean and Prince Charles laid wreaths before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National Cenotaph.
