Even Nicolas Sarkozy’s lonely act of defiance wasn’t enough to stop the massacre at Tiananmen:

The NYT explains what this is about. Readers are encouraged to submit their own images of Sarko at the turning points of history.

Be gentle. The man is currently solving the Middle East situation.

I guess Sarkozy is the winner of this year's Zelig Prize. Ignatieff was the runner-up.

  • Foreigner

Someone photoshop Sarkozy's head onto Harper's body as he plays the piano at the National Arts Centre. You can get stills of that from a Heritage Moment that's already been produced.

  • Mulletaur

    LOL.

Sorta reminiscent of the bother that levesque caused for himself by claiming in his memoirs to have witnessed first hand a maajor event in the war…what was it now? [ google is cheating’ Wasn’t it witnessing Mussolini’s execution, or was it being at Nurmburg?

I believe Sarkozy provided the crucial data that enabled the cyber geeks to avert a melt down during Y2K.

    • Mark

That was actually a pretty small job for the guy who invented the internet.

Someone needs to coin a term for this sort of historical posing by public figures in search of their own significance. It reminds me of Hillary Clinton's false account of dodging sniper fire in Sarajevo. It's a peculiar pathology combining tourism, politics and histrionics. You can imagine them telling the story over again until they actually believe it.

Sarkozy claims that N Armstrong wasn't the first man on the moon, as he was down with flu that week and Sarkozy, his closest pal, had a little time on his hands…the rest is history.

  • http://coyne kc

Sarkozy claims to have been a major factor in convincing Gorbachov to wind up the cold war. ” How do you think he got that red mark on his head,” ? Sarkozy boasted.” I held him down and kept giving him noogies until he said Nyet”!

    Hey Paul,
Why don't we talk about a real hero–Stephen Harper. He is not being sucked into the wealth drain of the Copenhagen conference, but is busy sponsoring programs in other countries to HELP PEOPLE HELP THEMSELVES! Check out his schedule for visitng China and India –way more relevant, Paul. Sarkozy hasn't been able to get his head out of a proverbial dark place for a long time—give me a break! This is news??

    • kcm

Yeah right! Until we have global consensus nothing get's done at all. Some leader; some leadership!

      • Raging Ranter

I can't think of a more meaningless word than 'consensus'. In fact, whenever someone brags that they have achieved a "consensus", it's a sure bet that NOTHING has been accomplished.

        • kcm

So are you claiming he's trying to reach unanimity? Because that would be a sure bet that NOTHING has been accomplished. Which is a result that might not displease him.

What I want to see are the pictures of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden dodging sniper fire in Bosnia and Iraq.

Sarkozy claims to have been instumental in securing the release of Mandela. Apparently he sent a note to Botha – the SA Prez [ a noted wine connoisseur] that uness he freed him, Sarkozy would personally piss in every bottle of beaujolais noveau sent to South Africa.

  • bud

I'm pretty sure he convinced Chretien not to proceed with Universal Childcare.

  • Not Glenn Beck

But why is there no picture of Nicolas Sarkozy with Glenn Beck on the night that Beck is supposed to have raped and murdered a young girl in 1990. Obviously such a picture would put the rumours about Glenn Beck to rest. If only someone would come forward with a picture of Sarkozy and Beck together on the night Beck is rumoured to have carried out this heinous crime.
