The sketch for November 27, 2008.

“The greatest histories,” Jim Flaherty mused about a half hour into explaining the state of the national economy, “are written in the toughest times.”

Shortly thereafter, he was finished. And shortly after his final words, he and the Prime Minister took their leave, long gone by the time Scott Brison, Gilles Duceppe, Jack Layton and Thomas Mulcair got round to blistering the Commons paint with indictments of the story just told.

In the thirty minutes preceding, Flaherty had explained, in the most ominous of adjectives, the depth and breadth of the crisis that now faces us. Unprecedented. Sudden. Devastating. Historic. “Canada,” he said, “has not faced such severe challenges in a generation.”

Perhaps hoping to assist those of us who traffic in symbolism, an infant wailed from the gallery.

I am feeling nostalgic. It was an entertaining week or two for us political junkies.

Of all the things that happened, Dion's 'help me, I am being held hostage' video was my absolute favourite.

same here joly – I miss the puffin that hasd to be the funniest ad I have ever seen on the web outside of Iggy's enchanted forest! – the sad part is how angry the lib's get at us CPC'ers when it wasn't us that gave hime the heave ho down the greased chute with a knife in his back but his own party. I seem to recall Iggy having the locks changed on Dion's staff doors the very next morning before the staffers even got to work! – talk about tacky – even Haprer wouldn't do that he would give you time to clean out your desk and forward your personal email to your home account!

Do you possess any principles at all? Pity for you that the vast majority of Canadian's didn't agree with you.

“Canada,” he said, “has not faced such severe challenges in a generation.”

And so, Canada has chosen to punt the burden, big-time, to the next generation. So much for greatest histories.
