Makes sense

Conservative MP Pat Davidson says it would be wrong to suggest proroguing Parliament means MPs will be on holiday. Conservative MP Gary Schellenberger says the proroguing of Parliament means he can take some time off to enjoy the Olympics.

Mr. Schellenberger admitted he may try to take two or three weeks off during the Winter Olympic Games and may try to get to Vancouver if he can find accommodation.

The Olympics in Canada were another good reason to prorogue Parliament, he added. ”If we are sitting, how do MPs get to those events,” he said of the Olympic games. “It makes sense that we are not sitting.”

Short. Simple. Mostly monosyllabic. You have a great future ahead of you writing CPC "ten percenters". Speaking of, jeeze, it's a long time since I've received one.

    Troll. Feeding. You did. Unwise.

"Mr. Schellenberger admitted he may try to take two or three weeks off during the Winter Olympic Games and may try to get to Vancouver if he can find accommodation."

Interesting to note that Mr. Schellenberger was first elected as a Progressive Conservative. Then Canadian Alliance leader Stephen Harper even came to Mr. Schellenberger's riding and campaigned in support of Mr. Schellenberger's Alliance opponent.

As a member of said financial industry, who has just now finished preparing one client's payroll information for the T4 program, that doesn't make me feel any better. And who decided the Olympics should be on in February, anyhow? Some people's office didn't call and say don't bother until March, you know.

Nice! Thanks for mentioning it, Sisyphus. Accidental Deliberations is such a great blog.

Media Savvy for a Conservative MP is supposed to be easy. If you see a journalist, pop back down in your hole. Ever seen a prairie dog?

Every tit's entitled to his titillating entitlements.

Hmmm. That's funny, I was under the distinct impression that he already had done so.

Why won't the NHL give Hamilton an professional hockey team? Because then Toronto would want one too.

  • E.B.

There were a lot of us in southern Ontario who were pretty excited at the prospect of getting a team in Hamilton. We have always felt that we deserved a professional hockey team around here. There hasn't been onew since the 60's…

    Rest easy for now,
Stay at sites like this and comfort yourself among others here who tell themselves that all canadians and not just your kindreds here, will put Iggy in power, because of…ahem…prorogation.
    Enjoy it while you can,

because an election is coming in just a few short weeks, and the Liberals will have no policy, no platform, no clear ideas on how to steer our economy better than Harper has, and all the faux scandal chasing in the world,

will not change that startling fact.

But defending Iggy's luxurious sojourns in Southern France,

    in 3…2…1

  • Evalina

Well of course if MPs can take 2 weeks off to go watch the Olympics, why can't the rest of us do that??

"the Liberals will have no policy, no platform, no clear ideas on how to steer our economy"

That didn't seem to bother Harper in 2008 too much. Maybe the key to winning is refusing to have a platform…Ignatieff is apparently a quick study!

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/CanadianSense CanadianSense

Was that before Canadians gave them +17 seats in 2008 or are you referring to November 2009 when Canadians again sent 2 more CPC to govern?

Funny how when we get to vote we DON'T send any Liberals.

  • Dave

Might be something available in the way of accomodations on Craigslist or Kijiji

It's interesting that you say an election is coming in a few short weeks. In his interview with Akin and Ivison, the Prime Minister said there would not. Who should I believe? Before you answer, biff, consider that this may be a trick question.

  • Dave

Perhaps we should recall parliament and pass legislation giving all Canadians those two weeks off in addition to any vacation time they might otherwise have so that they might attend too if they choose to do so.

Seems only fair. Maybe get some other things dealt with on the side.

    Carole Taylor in BC.

    Two words: caucus retreat.

  • burlivespipe

That's a pretty thin crop you're picking through, Dave.

It was my understanding that biff is a senior Green Party staffer, so he may know something we don't know.

  • burlivespipe

Harper's already hinted at dealing us the green shaft, er shaft, um shift ala income trusts. Dare say why the Liberals need to produce unpopular policy ideas when Harper seems hellbent on embracing them months later?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/Crit_Reasoning Crit_Reasoning

Heh. I assure you that it was purely complimentary.

Mr. Schellenberger said he will not be working in Ottawa but he continues to perform his role as a member of parliament. "I am always working. My offices are open, it's business as usual. I have a BlackBerry."

"We don't have any committees meeting. We don't have any debates right now. But when we get back, hopefully the opposition are willing to co-operate."
    —————–

And by "co-operate" he means do exactly what the Cons want them to do. Sorry, Cons, still a minority!
