UPDATE: Congratulations to Jack Mitchell on a close victory over Not Stephen Colbert. Your Amazon.ca gift certificate will be arriving via email, Jack.

This week’s caption challenge attracted a few good entries and several not-so-good entries. More importantly, it attracted the entry from Earth’Ln. Believe me: it’s worth the trip back to read it. It’s mesmerizing, with its hint of conspiracy and its jaunty nautical theme toward the end. I didn’t choose him as a finalist, but that doesn’t change my belief that Earth’Ln should have his or her own pirate radio station.

The finalists:

  • The Governor General was not impressed by the Prime Minister’s De Niro impression. – Not Stephen Colbert
  • SH: “I couldn’t fire Bernier….. I mean, did you see Couillard?” GG: “You sicken me.” – danby
  • “Some day, and that day may never come, I’ll call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day comes, please accept the aid for Haiti with my best wishes.” – Sean
  • Stephen once again expresses his disappointment that Pamela wasn’t invited to the Opening Ceremonies. – FeschukGroupie
  • PM: “You’d like to think that, wouldn’t you? You’ve beaten my prorogation, which means you’re exceptionally viceregal, so you could’ve put the poison in your own glass, trusting on your constitutionality to save you, so I can clearly not choose the water in front of you. But, you’ve also bested my Baird, which means you must have studied Zen, and in studying Zen you must have learned that Tories are bananarific, so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the water in front of me.” GG: “You’re trying to trick me into proroguing again. It won’t work.” – Jack Mitchell

    Sam the Eagle.

At least he didn't start his commentary with an admission that it was so bad he did not bother reading it.

Not to complain Scott, but the GG portion of my entry seems to be MIA?

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/NotStephen Not Stephen Colbert

Hmm, it seems the balloting has been tainted. In the interests of fairness, I suggest that Feschuk cancel the poll and award the prize to each of us.

I actually found this one quite difficult. I couldn't decide weather the GG looked appalled, disgusted, disappointed, or just really confused. And I couldn't decide whether Harper was doing a terrible De Niro impression, or just earnestly trying to judge which of the two invisible objects he was holding was heavier.

    • Kevin

Same dilemma here. The only thing clear in her expression was that our GG does not hold that man in very high esteem.

I thought up another one, but too late….. how about

with the transformation now in it's latter stages, Mr Harper began assuming the dress, mannerisms and expressions of Jean Chretien

  • ex canuck

This is another bit of unfunny, boring and sophomoric journalism which, regrettably, characterises most of the stuff I read in this magazine. Pity.

    • Dot

      Tiger Williams?

    • Mike T.

      I'm rubber, you're glue!!!

Geez, way to ruin the Maclean's franchise, you guys. Thanks a lot. (In your defence, "sophomoric" is a small step up from "freshmanic.")

      someone didn't get a good night sleep….

      • ex canuck

You could be right. One should have said, "a lot of", rather than, "most of". Sorreee.

        • http://intensedebate.com/people/SeanStok Sean

One would still be a tool.

    • Dot

ex canuck: Only in Canada you say "Pity".

I love it when people come to the "Feschuk on the Famous" humour blog and complain about the lack of journalistic professionalism, and the sophomoric humour. It's like when people complain about Jon Stewart not being hard hitting enough as a journalist, or about Pamela Anderson failing to solve any intractable mathematical theorems.

If ex canuck ever stumbles upon the Onion, I fear for his well being.

      • Bonkers

Sean took care of ex canuck … comme habitude.

Can't believe I held on — NSC was coming up fast in the home stretch. Great entries all round.

        i thought Jack's piece highly derivative…boo sir! :)

  • Mike T.

    Well done Jack!

  • Charles Stified

Optional caption: "So what's up with Jaffer?"

  • Adrian A.

Jack's reply is downright brilliant!! Truly, you have a dizzying intellect. For those who don't get it, it's a parody from the film the Princess Bride… the scene can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EkBuKQEkio
