A fitting end

The last day of committee hearings into the dealings of Rahim Jaffer ends in bafflement, contradiction and scorn.

“We stood for democracy. We stood for freedom,” he told a Commons committee this morning, referring to the party he first joined and was elected to as an MP to Parliament in 1997. He was defeated in 2008. “The way my wife has been treated by your party and your government doesn’t represent anything that I have ever … worked for during the time I was an MP.”

Mr. Jaffer, clearly agitated, said that his wife, Helena Guergis, isn’t even allowed to run as a Conservative for the nomination in her Simcoe-Grey riding. “You want to talk about disappointment. That’s disappointment.”

We stood for mandatory minimums for drug offenses!
We stood for a tougher lobbying act!
We stood for the Accountability Act!

He uses the words "worked for " in the loosest terms possible.

I did like how he lost his green "insiders" passport but still manages to find pockets full of his old, obsolete MP business cards.

I gather he still hasn't figured out that his old pals in the CPC now regard him as a liability rather than an asset. Time to move along Rahim (and Helena), the times they are a changin'.

    Poor Rahim is disillusioned.

And so what happens with all this? Do committees pick up the pieces when back in session, or do they work throughout the year?

Or was it all just some good TV for political geeks, and onto bigger, better and more corrupt items in fall?

I think folks of all political stripes can agree that Jaffer & Guergis have become a complete farce, and should probably be dressing up as clowns for the neighbour kid's 12th birthday party. The only brand that they're damaging at this point is that of Jaffer/Guergis.

"A fitting end" would be that they both go far far away and never bother us again.

Speaking a dyed in the wool 100% Tory I am very and I mean very happy that the PM nuked these pair of … well it wouldn't be polite … all I can say is that the both of them are a waste of political space and got exactly what they deserved .. in point of fact my admiration for Harper stepped up a notch on this file I was already a fan!

If he were still a member of the Harper government, his inability to feel accountable wouldn't be such a problem for him. He could just join Dimitri Soudas in an undisclosed location and watch the World Cup.

      Sing along. I do.

      Liquor and whores
      Liquor and whores
Cigarettes and dope and mustard and bologna
      Liquor and whores

      I went down
      Drinkin' at the Legion
I met a girl she was nice
      She was pretty and pleasing

      She said "Hey boy
      We should do some marrying"
I said sure but before we do
There's something that you should know

      I like
      Liquor and whores
      Liquor and whores
Cigarettes and dope and mustard and bologna
      Liquor and whores…

Then one night down at the legion
She walked in, I was drunk on gin
      Dancin with a lady friend
She said hey boy, You'd better fly the f*ck home
I said no cause five little words I coulda
      Swore I said to you

      I like
      Liquor and whores
      Liquor and whores
Cigarettes and dope and mustard and bologna
      Liquor and whores…

As time goes on we will probably see the Harper government is as full of despicable types as the Chretien and Mulroney governments before.
