The surreal life

And while reports of sporadic violence continue to come in, the international media centre is filled with the image of the Prime Minister and Mrs. Harper at the Royal York for an interminable number of grip-and-grins with various visiting dignitaries. Smiles are being forced, small talk is being made, air kisses are being exchanged. Mrs. Harper is wearing a lovely floral-print dress, with matching purse. Mr. Harper is in a black suit, white shirt and red tie. Mrs. Harper has well mastered the right foot forward standing pose and seems to have perfected the photo op dance—she stands with her husband and the other first couple for a few shots, then steps back with the other spouse to allow the leaders a photo together.

    In other words,

Harper should reward the thugs by shutting things down and shining the spotlight on them?

Actually carrying on as if they don't exist is precisely the right thing to do.

And so, tomorrow, the sun will rise and the world will survive to see another day.
Providing protesters with any form of acknowledgement whatsoever, only encourages them. They are looking for attention and don't care how they achieve it…. hmmm, put away your cameras and go home.. they might do the same. And yes, all the first ladies this evening look great and have their poses and smiles perfected. Enjoy the eveings ladies. Stay safe Toronto….

Taking shots at the man's wife now? For wearing a lovely dress and cooperating with the photographers at a major conference?

This is quite possibly the cheapest piece I've seen from Wherry.

Wherry's likely sour that he's down to Hollywood grade topics to cover.

G, where do you see the "shot" at Mrs. Harper? I see a description of a woman who has adopted the necessary diplomatic evil rather well. And the "surreal life" choice of words in the title suggests to me a measure of sympathy for Mrs. Harper. Not a shot at her. I guess YMMV.
