Iran jails wife of lawyer who defended woman sentenced to death by stoning; Turkey locks up the lawyer

Iran is holding hostage the wife of prominent human rights lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei in an effort to get him to return from Turkey, where he fled after interrogation in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison — where his wife is now detained. Mostafaei’s crime was to defend Sakineh Mohammadei Ashtiani, who had been sentenced to death by stoning after being convicted of adultery.

Turkey, meanwhile, has detained Mostafaei, despite offers from Norway to give him asylum and pay for his plane ticket to Oslo. Iranian blogger and democratic activist Potkin Azarmehr tried to get answers from the Turkish embassy in London.

Turkey has said it will not extradite Mostafaei to Iran.

    don't see any criticism of iran or turkey by the human rights crowd. of course since israel is not involved why would they say anything about this .

    Hey…..let's make a trade.

    Turkey and Iran can have our Canadian terrorists' (including Omar Khadr and his entire family)….and in exchange we get their human rights activists.

      Hey, let's have an experiment. Open up the borders between Turkey, Canada and Iran (yeah, yeah, I know, only two of those actually share a border, c'mon, work with me here). Allow free movement of people for one year. Anyone can move and set up their lives in any of the three countries, as each sees fit.

      OK, OK, let's have it as a thought experiment instead. Canada can't build all those houses fast enough.

    Seems like Turkey is sliding down Iranian's path, one huge step at a time. Within a decade, Turkey's secularism might be down the trash. Turkey's current administration's tinkering of its constitution presents even a grimmer picture of Turkey's future.
