    Brison. Called it.

    Just sayin'.

    • BGLong

Yup. The inevitable triumph of the media-friendly stock broker. The world is clearly
      a better place today.

      • D-R

Having a former conservative in finance will always be a cause for cooing among the chattering classes.

And Denis Coderre? Seriously? He's an incompetent buffoon of a critic, and he's already openly betrayed his chosen leader once.

        • Crit_Reasoning

I think Coderre is still quite popular in Quebec, though. Ignatieff probably didn't want to snub him, buffoon or not.

          • Mike R

Good move to put Brison in finance, since he is one of their more quotable and media-freindly members. It would be hard to find a more right-wing businessman so it will be hard to pain the Grits as left-wing in financial and fiscal matters, if they listen to Brison at all. On the other hand it would be hard for him to criticize the government with a straight face, since there is pretty much nothing that they are doing that he would disagree with in real life. That won't stop him of course.

          • Cats

Well the biggest fault line is over the corporate tax cuts.

Former Liberal MP John Manley, who now represents the business community in Ottawa, is 100% at odds with the current Liberal team.

There. I've already painted Brison as left wing in financial and fiscal matters !

            Inconvenient mice!

          • Mike R

Well, except Scott actually believes the corporate tax rate should be zero. He won't say that publcly of course. Especially now that he's tied his star, such as it is, to the Liberals.

  • Cats

    "Canadian Heritage Pablo Rodriguez"

Isn't he facing criminal charges ??

    Weird choice.

    Cats!

  • Stephen B

    Dominic Leblanc in Defence?

  • Blue

    Scarpaleggia got Water.
    Who got Fire ?
    What about Air ?

    • Anon Liberal

Stopping bulk water exports is Scarpaleggia's pet issue.

      • Dave

Good thing, because look at all the people who are trying to do just that!

  • Blue

    There`s almost 50 Cabinet-Ministers in this " government-in-waiting " .
There is not enough members left in the Liberal Caucus to fill the Deputy-Ministers roles.

Maybe Iggy could use a few NDP or BQ Members in those roles.

    • Jimmy Fallon

Nice joke, Blue, but Deputy Ministers are usually career bureaucrats. You might be thinking of Ministers of State or Parliamentary Secretaries.

    • RJodoin

Blue, you obviously don't know what a Deputy Minister is!

      • Blue

Sorry for my mistaken terminology, but I`m glad that you see what I meant.

  • john g

Wow. 48 MPs out of 76 (including Ignatieff). That's 63% of caucus.

Pablo Rodriguez is still there despite his drunk driving? Wow. Wonder how badly the other 28 MPs who didn't make the cut had to screw up to stay off the list?

    • Anon Liberal

      Alleged asshat.

      • Cats

        Um no, not alleged.

He has admitted to driving after drinking alcohol. Whether he was over or under the legal limit will never be known because he didn't successfully take a breathalyzer.

He's charged with something like failure to complete a breathalyzer. It carries the same penalty as being over the legal limit because usually if you don't complete the test you're doing it on purpose because you know you're stinking drunk.

However, his defence is that he couldn't blow hard enough so the machine never worked.

Not someone who should be in cabinet until this is resolved, CATS!

        • DBM

So we don't know if he was drunk. Hence alleged.

The point that there's a cloud currently hanging over him certainly stands, though.

          • Cats

Well no. Nothing is being alleged with regards to drunk driving. No criminal charges are being layed.
            Hence no alleged.

He had two glasses of wine and got into a car crash. People will draw their own conclusions. But its not wise to go around saying he committed drunk driving, when he hasn't been convicted of it let alone charged.

john g probably shouldn't be saying he's a drunk driver.

Anon Liberals' suggestion that john g say alleged isn't helpful because nothing is being alleged.

            That was my whole point.

            Best fishes.

    • hollinm

john g…..you will note that Ruby Dhalla is nowhere to be found. The old age security thingy for immigrants and the nannygate has shortened her political career.

      • Blue

The voters in her riding and the other three Liberal ridings in the Brampton area may have more to say in shortening political careers.

        • Cats

          Wow!

And she only won by a whisker last time.

His Iggy giving up on one of his most vulnerable members ?

Another feline seat next go around!

        • hollinm

Blue…..I agree. However, it is interesting that Ignatieff chose not to include the Bollywood actress as part of the lineup. Of course she will probably lose the next election over her bone headed private members bill. I think Ignatieff feels she is damaged goods and does not want to give the government a target.

    • burlivespipe

If they screwed up worse they'd be CONs..

  • bennji

This shadow cabinet will have just about as much influence on government policy as the current Ministry.

  • Anon Liberal

I would have kept Gerard Kennedy on Transport & Infrastructure (or was it Public Works?). Anyway, whatever the title he was doing a good job on the Economic Action Plan! stuff and that may heat up significantly this fall when the Auditor General reports on it.

    • AT1

He was? I thought he'd pretty much disappeared, unless he's had a face-change to resemble Mark Holland.

  • madeyoulook

McCallum still has something? Wow. He must have pictures and the negatives.

    • hollinm

I guess the media now pick and choose the shadow cabinet for the Liberals. The media i.e. Chantal Hebert was calling for the replacment of McCallum in the finance critic's role. Poof! He is gone. I believe Brison was also proposed as his replacement. Poof!!!!!!! He is in.

      • madeyoulook

The media keep calling for the Leafs to get nowhere close to the Cup Finals, either. But you would be hard pressed to state that it was the media that picked & chose their perennial dismality. Dismalhood? Dismalocity? Dismalness?

Sometimes the media might just see the same obvious situation that party leaders see.

      • burlivespipe

media also wanted lugnut harper in for a second term — poof! despite the lies about election date/accountability/income trust/no recession/ethics etc… Guess that 'left-wing media' rumour must be true…
        dolt.

  • tono-bungay

Interesting choice of Kennedy for Environment. David McGuinty wasn't making a lot of friends in that portfolio, and Kennedy is front bench material, but with the scientific talent in caucus (including one with a Nobel Prize for her work on Climate Change) it would be nice to send the message that knowledge is important.

  • Blue

Wouldn`t Judy Sgro be more suited for Economic Diversification ?

  • Emily

    Dr Kirsty Duncan. Etobicoke North.

  • Stewart_Smith

Kirsty Duncan served on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which shared the 2007 Nobel Prize with Al Gore.

  • James Wolfe

Have you heard this loud mouth partisan blowhard Mcslimy speak? This guy could be the King of spin in Ottawa, what a mess, this should be comical to watch. NOT. More spin, propaganda and BS, here we go again…eeehhh, hhhaaaa. The Gong show is returning.

    • TwoYen

McSlimy – "King of Arrogance" is what one Ottawa taxi driver told me today.
