For the record

There is apparently some confusion over Bob Rae’s position on federal funding for a hockey arena in Quebec City, so here apparently is his position.

I urged caution. I never spoke to Sun media. I said Harper needed to understand that this is not a “one off” decision. You can’t just dole out money to a commercial arena in Quebec without understanding the implications for the rest of the country.

Liberal MPs Keith Martin and Joyce Murray apparently oppose funding. Marc Garneau has reportedly said the Liberals support the funding.

I thought Dennis Coddere, who used to be sports minister, had already said the official position of the Liberal party was to support funding the Quebec City arena ?

Maybe i'm mistaken but in all the initial press reports I read they mentioned that the BQ and Liberals also supported the project. (As for as I know so do the NDP but I haven't heard anything official.)

Danby, I think the Libs biggest prob is your dad forgot to tell MI. it seems the Libs feel the need to have a position, usually not sufficiently thought through on policy or political grounds, before the paint dries.

Is "caution" a position? It seems more like a mode for operating. Like stealth. "I urged stealth. I never spoke to Sun media…" See? They're the same.

Ya, Bob Rae's never flat-out lied about quotes before right? Say like on whether Iffy signed the coalition agreement…

Is this Rae backtracking on what he said?? Is he lying now?
    Who has the original quote?
