Too Hot For Sesame Street

The video of the day is the Katy Perry/Elmo duet that Sesame Street decided not to air. Personally, as a lifelong Elmo hater, I think he’s the objectionable part. Replace Elmo with pretty girls who can sing, and the show might be appropriate for children again.

    There are just too many jokes to go with on this one.

    It should be noted though, that she's just wearing a princess costume. It isn't as if kids haven't seen almost entirely covered breasts before. Now if it had devolved into a mud pit tickle-fight, we might have an issue. People need to lighten up.

    On a related note, Elmo gets all the ladies.

      I should point out that I object to the princess costume in principle. Little girls get more than enough exposure to the princess motif without a pop star and Sesame Street encouraging it.

      However, this is tame compared to some of the misogynistic Disney tripe that kids are exposed to.

    Man the kids of today have it so much better than when I was a kid! I will never again let a politician tell me that we should yearn for the heady days of yester-year without thinking about this video

      if you're talking cleavage-wise, I'm not going there. if you mean music wise, earlier generations got the likes of Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder. Perry is pretty good for that kind of thing (and the 1-2-3-4 of Feist two years ago was inspired) but nothing was lacking for earlier generations!

    Katy looks pretty and sweet here — why is this a problem, but not the "True Blood" parody on Sesame Street (video just to the right as I'm posting this).

    Kids LOVE Katy Perry with all her bubblegum sweetness, but I would be surprised if preschoolers are allowed to watch True Blood!

    So I was allowed to watch an OBVIOUSLY coked-out-of-his-mind Richard Pryor recite the alphabet but kids aren't allowed to watch this? Shame. Sesame Street was all about pushing the envelope of what counted as educational TV.

    Cleavage. It's sinful.

    It reminds me of an interview I read recently with a comic book guy who said that his first job in comics, in the '50s, was erasing Katy Keene's cleavage because the Comics Code Authority was cracking down low-cut outfits.

      All I saw was a little girl in a princess dress.

      I really have to question the people with minds in the gutter enough to look at that little girl and think she's too "sexy" for kids.

    Nothing to object to there. Not even Elmo. People need something to hate. If they can't find anything, they'll make something up. But since the advent of reality TV, finding something to hate is less of a problem.
