Mini-election

by Aaron Wherry on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 10:15am - 0 Comments

With Jay Hill announcing his departure and the Bloc’s Jean-Yves Roy expected to soon follow, as many as five ridings may now be officially put in play before year’s end. Pundits Guide circles December 13 on the calendar.

Those by-elections would include two Conservative seats (Prince George and Dauphin), one NDP seat (Winnipeg-North), one Liberal seat (Vaughan) and one Bloc seat (Haute-Gaspesie). The latter three would seem to be the most worth watching—Haute-Gaspesie a narrow Bloc victory in 2008 and the Conservatives seemingly eager to pick up Vaughan.

Let me be the first to say these by-elections will be a big test for Harper/Ignatieff/Layton/Duceppe/May and the results could signal something that reflects poorly on Harper/Ignatieff/Layton/Duceppe/May and favourably for Harper/Ignatieff/Layton/Duccepe/May.

It's pretty easy being an Ottawa pundit, eh? hahaha.

    • RunningGag

But the real question is why do you hate the troops? Because everyone that disagrees with Harper/Ignatieff/Layton/Duceppe/May has proven that they hate the troops.

    • Richard_S_Argent

      Excellently done!

hmmm 12 more seats and Stevie boy has a majority – would it not be a hoot if he did without a national election – as after all folks – if he keeps incumbents and he picks up 2 or 3 here and there with each set of bi-elections this fall and then again in the spring and who knows next year fall as well – as after all I don't see the NDP wanting to run out and have an election right now – and the Liberals well what can you say about those incompetents right now kind of like a lame duck party of late.

Typically penetrating analysis from a Con supporter.

      • Gary

And the counter argument is equally riveting!

Wayne! Writing as Wayne! So much better than psiclone.

      • Jan

Those crafty Conservatives. I wonder if he is one of the 'thousands' who emailed Bernier.

      • Wayne

where have you been Jenn – it has been my real name for a long time now

        • MostlyCivil

We're just enjoying your magical chain of "if's" that have to be strung together to create a majority government out of byelections.

It's like you've decided to throw aside the process of using statistics, analysis, voting records from region to region and the whole concept of probablility to bring about your nearly impossible desired result.

You sure you don't work for the Leafs?

        • Jenn_

Well, I always did assume it was your real name, but are you saying you abandoned psiclone a while back? Because I swear, this is the first post I've noticed.

  • MostlyCivil

    Re Vaughan and Julian Fantino:

"The former policeman is not a “yes man,” the source told The Globe, noting that the former top cop is “famously abrasive” and would likely butt heads with the Prime Minister."

Not a yes man? Not a 2010 Conservative.

  • danby

But Mr Harper just needs the seat – the MP? Not so much.
Every seat counts, and once a majority is reached, Fantino can sit on some "law and order committee" and that should keep him busy for a while.
Should he prove very troublesome, I'm sure there's a seat available in the cafeteria – formerly occupied by Helena Geurgis.

Rumor has it that this is the star candidate that has been recruited to replace Mr. Hill in Prince George. I think he will fit right in with the rest of the Con caucus.

For some reason I was convinced that your link was gonna take me to this guy: http://www.hcha.ca/images/Mantracker2.jpg

Your star candidate works better though :)

  • Dave

But that candidate has an orange ball. The Tories prefer their balls to be Tory blue.

  • danby

While this candidate does look more competent than some MP's (Tony Clement comes to mind), he appears to have too much pride to soullessly deliver the fallacious talking points the job requires.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/Ottawa_Centrist Ottawa_Centrist

Is he prepared to jump through the nomination hoops while continuing to balance his other responsibilities?

    I'm not convinced.

  • bennji1977

You may be onto something there……blue balls…..

That may explain why Conservative always seem to come across as angry.

  • Jan

Actually, Harper prefers they have no balls.
