All that for what?

Our web team helpfully translates Le Devoir’s review of the legislative year.

Of the 61 pieces of legislation the Conservatives introduced in the House over the last 12 months, 33 were recycled from the previous session of Parliament; and as of right now, 18 of those 33 bills are either at the same stage or further away from being made law than they were before prorogation … Counting the three bills that are set to be granted royal assent Wednesday afternoon, the Conservatives will have passed a meagre 11 bills through Parliament over the past 12 months.

    Opposition obstruction !

No seriously, unless a party objects than bills can be re-introduced at the same stage they were before prorogation.

The fact that the opposition has NEVER allowed this speaks very, very, very poorly on them.

    Obstructionist opposition Cats!

    • McC_

15 Government Bills are still at First Reading in the House (and one more in the Senate). That means that the Government still hasn't brought these bills forward for debate, and has nothing to do with opposition obstruction.

      Fact Checking Cats!

      • Cats

Only so many days in the week CATS.

If opposition hadn't obstructed bills, they could have been re-introduced at committee and more bills could have been debated!!

Fact checking your fact check Cats!

Hey Cats, remember a few days ago when you were meowing about the Conservatives' imminent majority based on the latest poll? Check it out!
      http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/canada/breakingn…

Cats do tend to get excitable over little things… even the ebbing and flowing of meaningless polls.

Oh, and this 'obstructionist opposition' baloney isn't going to sell beyond the Conservative base (though it's like catnip to them, I'll admit).

      • Cats

LOL. HD is the 20th time out of 20 as we say.

It contradicts about 5 other polls over the same time period.

        LOL. Embarrassed for you Cats!

        • Emily

Two polls in the last week show once again that Cons and Libs are tied, and there is no chance of a majority.

Just like I've said all along….she goes up, she goes down, but nobody's getting anywhere and haven't for the last 5 years.

          • Dave

None of the polls this month have been consistent with anything other than a minority.

          • Cats

Not according to the election projections guy the national post links too.

Nanos figured his poll could lead to a majority. IR and AR were pretty close too.

            Cats away!

          • Dave

Nanos figured no such thing. Nanos said that the Conservatives are targetting ridings that could give him a majority without a breakthrough in Quebec. Nanos did not say that his most recent polling figures would lead to a Tory majority, and he would have been stupid to have done so.

Eric Grenier projected 148 Tories on those Nanos numbers. 148 is not a majority using conventional math.

            Dave!

          • Cats

Um "Dave!" can you not read ?

Nanos said those numbers COULD lead to a majority, as in IT IS POSSIBLE. He didn't say they WOULD or WOULD NOT.

BTW NP links to a different guy who does projections.

Different guy who says majority is possible with recent poll numbers.

            Different guy Cats!!

          • Dave

            Link or it didn't happen.

            Dave!!

          • Cats

Oh here he is. Its a LIberal, Dan Arnold. Says the CPC has a 17.6% at a majority:
            http://calgarygrit.blogspot.com/2010/12/pre-chris…

Here's the write up for Nanos. He was on Power Play but they don't have transcripts:
            http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/otta…

"The current configuration of national support for the Conservatives suggests that numerically a Tory majority government can be formed"

            Dave didn't link to himself!!

            David didn't happen!! DAVE!!!!

Cats questioning the existence of things that exist like Dave!! does!

          • Dave

Yes, a 17.6% chance at a majority once you run simulations on the data by adding or subtracting random noise.

            Nice try though, Cats.

            Dave away!

          • Cats

            Excuse me ??

HD is the hardest on the Tories and they show the CPC is AHEAD.

It is the ONLY poll where the gap is between the MOE.

So please Emils provide us with this NON EXISTENT SECOND POLL.

            Making things up Cats!

        • gottabesaid

How about this: if the Conservatives get that majority, I'll get you a new scratching post. Otherwise, my skepticism regarding the ups-and-downs of polls remains intact and embarrassment-free.

    • Fido

Your credibility might improve if you spend some time studying grammar. The politics can wait. Please don't scold me. I'm simply trying to be helpful (after all, CATS are smarter than dogs, correct?) :

The fact that Mr. Harper prorogued parliament speaks very, very, very poorly of him.

  • Emily

We're in a world of drifting mediocrity.

Right at a time when serious decisions need to be made about the future.

    • Dave

      It's always that time.

      • http://twitter.com/jonatwitan @jonatwitan

No Dave, now is more important than ever. EVER Dave. Now is the most important time. And now this are worse than ever. Oh Dave don't you get it? How many more hyperboles do I need to use to get you on board?

Or should I say on "bored"?

        • http://twitter.com/jonatwitan @jonatwitan

*sigh*…"now this are worse" of course ought to read "now things are worse".

        • Dave

You need to use a million billion zillion hyperboles, and that'll almost be enough.

Can't blame Haper. He had plans to go to an election right after the Olympics. That didn't work. Then he was going to be swept in through the G8. That didn't work.. And then the Liberals started to do better plus the economy started to stall. Since nobody else in the government can pee without his permission, nothing got done.

On the bright side, he may have finished that book on hockey he's been writing, and he's apparently learned a lot of new songs. So something is getting done.
