How to win friends and influence people

Eric Grenier finds that cabinet ministers have faired better, both financially and electorally, in recent federal campaigns.

It was a similar situation in the 2008 campaign, when the entire Conservative cabinet presented themselves to their constituents as ministers for the first time in an election. While the party increased its support by 1.4 points nationally, ministers saw their support grow by an average of 2.8 points. Regionally, they out-performed their parties by a modest 2 per cent.

Well that explains why Harper is appointing so many.

Imagine having the taxpayer foot the bill for all the gifts you gave your relatives and friends this past holiday season. That's what Harper does, although I'll wager his gifts are a good deal more costly than any you or I could imagine.

No wonder the Conservatives have such a healthy warchest when the first (and second, and third) thing they think of is "how can we get the Canadian taxpayer to pay for this?" Also, no wonder we were in a deficit position before the recession.

He's flying past Chretien and headed towards Mulroney levels of pork-barrleing!

Jenn_ care to back up that claim ? That we were in a deficit position BEFORE the recession ?

Also you'll be happy to hear that the overall value of corporate tax receipts has INCREASED even though the rate has gone DOWN in recent years.

Yep, the good ol' Laffur curve.

      Economically Victorious Cats!

The counter here says there are 5 posts….I can only see 3.

    Anyone else having this problem?

  • Claudia Lemire

Yes, it shows 6 and it's only 4

Some of us occasionally switch to a transparent font.

LOL well sometimes I post….it kicks in…and then vanishes! A new window doesn't help. If I post a second comment however, then BOTH of them show up….one of those little mysteries.

I think that is the first sign (or a sign) that you have a P.O.S. computer. (The P stands for 'piece' and O stands for 'of'… you get the rest).

  • Emily

LOL no it's not. I use several computers, most of them new, throughout the day. The glitch is on the site.

I have POS computer… but I've noticed posting issues too today, particularly on the census story. I think it's because we're so smart we busted up the machine.

Well sometimes you can see 10 new posts have been added according to the counter, but on the inside it'll insist that all threads were last replied to 6 or 12 or 24 hours ago….so you have to go through them all to find the additional comments….posted only 10 minutes ago.
