Can you trust a man who doesn't drink his coffee from a Beatles mug?

The Conservatives don’t want an election, but are willing to start the campaign here and now with half a dozen new adverts. In the first clip, we learn that to protect Canada from European rioters, Stephen Harper is sitting alone at his desk all day, doing a lot of paperwork.

LOL he works with a tie on? Without his sleeves rolled up?

    With an antique phone??

    Without a computer???

No wonder we're not getting anywhere…he's still in the early Beatles era.

    • gottabesaid

I heard that they had to take his computer away because he ends up wasting hours upon hours on political blog sites clogging up the comment boards with his thoughts.

      • Emily

Heh! I dunno why, he has enough mouthpieces in the media as it is!

And if he has to work in the middle of the night [showing us a major security breach as well] and still has that big pile of briefs to deal with….he's not exactly on top of things.

        This ad is soooo bad…

        • Walle

isn't that a light through yon window breaking – only his office is in the dark…

          • Emily

Ahh, worked all night, along with his coffee maker, the dear man.

Of course he has a perfectly good office at home…

          • Emily

            Ping

          • Emily

They were so busy linking video of riots in Europe to flames on Parliament hill, they probably forgot that detail.

Or maybe he can't afford to pay his hydro bill.

    • McC_

hey, those phones still work just fine, and they were all made in Canada back when we were a world leader in telecom. Heck, maybe they worked too well, and since they still don't need to be replaced, those antique phones just might have helped kill Nortel!

      • CAPS

That must be why the Conservatives don't think they need to help Nortel pensioners – they think the company is still around because of the phones.

        • McC_

Hidden Agenda Watch: this is how Stephen Harper is dismantling your Canada!

          • niceguy71

            Lord I hope so!!!

  • McC_

I bet Ignatieff uses some fancy vintage European fountain pen, or a quill, not a good ole' plastic disposable pen to mark up his briefing material. Jack Layton, of course, would use pencil.

Who's been drinking the Harpercons Kool Aide

    • want a landslide

he would use a pencil because when he changes his mind 5 times he can erase.

  • CAPS

A Beatles mug!?!? I thought Harpsaid the Beatles led to drug use, http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5hUvLbSdjOyIsY….

Why does Stephen Harper promote drug use?

    • McC_

"My son is listening to my Beatles records and asking me what all these lyrics mean … I love these records. I'm not putting them away … But we have to change the culture," he said.

what does that even mean? and in all honesty, in what ways have our culture NOT changed since the 1960s?

    • Double Standards

He also appears to be using caffeine, a drug far more addictive and harmful than marijuana.

  • BCer in Mtl

You know, Mussolini was one of the first ones to use this kind of imagery to show how hard he was working; also he kept the lights on in his office so all could see that that he was hard at work.

    Just saying.

  • Twisted_Mentat

I don't think political parties should be able to run campaign-style ads unless the writ of election has been issued. While it could be argued that the first ad shown demonstrates some effort towards highlighting Conservative Party successes, the remaining five are merely smear ads/attack ads.

I guess the war chests are just bursting at the seams and that money just gotta be spent!

  • Fido

Rising to the Challenge hits the right tone and could sway some undecided. The remainder of clips are–in a word–offensive.

  • Emily

Apparently the new Con attack ads have already been sabotaged. LOL

Too bad it didn't catch the audio of Stephen muttering as he worked late into the night:

    - Gawd! Another screwup by Clement, so I'm here all %^&^&ing night, and missing my Leafs game to boot!

    - Flaherty! That #$##$ing moron! Good thing for him the best I otherwise have available is Poilievre

    - Gordon O'Connor? who the hell is that?

    - Uh-huh. Baird completely messes up that emirates thing, and I'm here trying to fix it, while he's out with my wife. Great.

  • Sarah

he looks like he should be writing a paper, doesn't he just sign documents?

  • niceguy71

Ladies and gentlemen…you too Emily…I give you the greatest PM in Canadian history.

I actually have a photo of the REAL coffee mug Harper uses — I took the photo inside his Calgary constituency office. Sitting on Harper's desk is a coffee mug with the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT SEAL. So instead of kissing US ass, he can put his lips to an American mug every day. See the photo in my Facebook album of our Harper office occupation: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1283571569…

I'll tell you where the culture hasn't changed since the 60's,and that would be the very early 60's and that's in Stephen Harpers head.Like all people who were never there,Harper longs for a simpler time, when he could keep up.

    Canada is no more.

Anytime I see an asterisk my spidey sense tingles. In this case the small print isn't bad, but why make me look for it in the first place? Just be truthful and add the word "ratio" into the sentence. I doesn't hurt anything dumbass.

  • OMG

thank god these aren't playing out here in BC, what a waste of time

I have found that the best way to judge whether any initiative from the Conservative gov`t, ( advertising, legislative, etc ), is to observe how the Lib supporters on certain Lib blog sites, including this one, react to it and then conclude that most Canadians will feel the complete opposite.

After observing the usual cynicism from the usual suspects above, it appears that the most recent ad from the Conservatives will be successful.

    Morning, Steve.
