Charlie Sheen says stuff again

by Jaime Weinman on Monday, February 28, 2011 5:26pm - 27 Comments

As it often does, TMZ stole the thunder of the broadcast networks by trumping their shorter Sheen interviews with this unedited live (well, not any more) interview.

[vodpod id=Video.5666918&w=640&h=350&fv=vid%3D13007706%26amp%3Bautoplay%3Dfalse]

What is there left to say, really, at this point, at least until we have a better idea of what’s going to happen to his show (rumours about CBS courting John Stamos, while plausible, don’t appear to be true at this point)? The guy spontaneously comes up with funnier dialogue than almost any comedy on TV (certainly including his own); it’s like he’s a Beat poet, and in fact the interview works even better if you play an audio clip of bongo drums at the same time.

The hilarity is lessened by the fear that he’s self-destructing before our eyes, though if he is, it’s not very high on the list of tragic things in the world. One thing Sheen always conveys is that he hasn’t been “destroyed” or “led astray” by anybody; he enjoys being this way, and emphasizes that he’s having fun and the rest of us puny mortals are jealous of him. If he completely melts down (more so, I mean) that will have been completely his own decision. So I think that’s one reason this particular meltdown has been so entertaining. There’s usually a guilt factor involved, the knowledge that we’re sort of standing by while someone is endangering himself. There’s certainly a guilt factor here as well, but there’s also the feeling that he knows exactly what he’s doing and wouldn’t listen (hasn’t listened) to anyone, whether or not there was a media circus going on.

With that much denial, he could do press for Harper's PMO.

    • psiclone

nope – doesn't work as it sounds more like a cross between Dion and Iggy as Charlie is definitely a prototype liberal no way you could consdier this guy a conservative.

  • OriginalEmily1

Why is anyone still listening to this man?

His own family wants to put him under guardianship.

  • sourstud

Charlie Sheen is my hero. Why should anybody tell him how to live his life? It's not affected his career, and his family still cares for him, so I don't really see the problem except that far too many people are obsessed with his personal life.

    • OriginalEmily1

      Of course you don't.

      • sourstud

And of course you would have no problem standing in judgement of someone you don't know anything about.

        • OriginalEmily1

Well you're judging him, you just don't see anything wrong in your rush to hero-worship.

The show has been cancelled….he just put a lot of people out of work

No one in their right mind will ever hire him again

He's going through his fortune at a great rate….who looks after him then? Or his children?

He's breaking the law….a 'suitcase full of cocaine' isn't legal anywhere…what does it tell people that he gets away with it?

He's mentally ill….his family is in agony over this. He needs an intervention

          • sourstud

            1) The show has not been canceled, the rest of this seasons filming has been canceled. And you'll note it was not Sheen who canceled it, or put anybody out of work.

            2) I'm sure there are lots of people who will hire him again. You're just making things up again.

            3) How do you know anything about his finances?

            4) Everybody in Hollywood is on drugs. He never signed up to be a role model, so it whatever message people want to take from his behavior is their (your) problem, not his.

            5) And now you're a medical doctor who's declaring him mentally ill…. even though he's spent the last weeks with a TEAM of ACTUAL doctors who've declared him mentally fit.

            6) You need an intervention.

  • Calgarian

Charlie & Loughan would make a perfect couple … both drunks & drug users, & have rehab experiences. Someone should introduce them!

  • Jan

Looks like bi-polar which would explain why he's been self-medicating all these years. He needs help.

  • sourstud

Oh, now Sheen was fired?! Could you please provide a link to the press release stating so?

Two and a Half men is the highest rated sitcom in the US, so WTF is losing money? And that was while he was using. Imagine how much better he's draw viewers now that he's sober?Producers would be insane NOT to hire him.

His finances are fine. He's owed millions upon millions of dollars for the remainder of this season, and next.

I don't think you have the foggiest idea of what mental illness actually is, much less how to diagnose it.

    • OriginalEmily1

      Sheen is a junkie.

Not to mention an irresponsible idiot.

No matter how 'evolved' he thinks he is.

Even his family thinks he needs a guardian because he's incapable of looking after himself.

If you want to hero-worship that, be my guest.

Says more about you than me.

      • sourstud

Get your lingo right. Coke heads are not "junkies".

And being irresponsible doesn't make him a bad person. And stop speaking for his family.

        • OriginalEmily1

Anyone addicted to drugs and/or alcohol is a junkie.

Anyone his age, with 5 children, and acting in this manner is irresponsible.

His family has spoken publically about his need of a legal guardian

Face it….he's Mel Gibson, only younger

          Also….history

          • sourstud

*sigh* like I said, look into the word "junkie", it has nothing to do with alcohol.

I didn't say he wasn't irresponsible. I said being irresponsible doesn't make him a bad person. And being irresponsible in ones personal life doesn't necessarily mean that they're irresponsible in their professional life.

His family has spoken about the POSSIBILITY of him MAYBE SOMEDAY needing a legal guardian. You'll note there have been absolutely zero legal maneuvers to make this happen.

Mel Gibson has what to do with this?

          • OriginalEmily1

I'm a boomer. I grew up surrounded by drugs. Don't tell me what to call a user.

Alcohol is a drug…our #1 drug of choice in fact.

Your problem is attitude….you like 'bad boys'….you like to think of yourself as 'badass'

Except you're not. You just like to sound 'hip'

Or what you think of as hip, Beavis.

His family says he needs a guardian now, and you have no idea what they've done about it.

Mel Gibson is also a junkie and a has-been.

          • sourstud

LOL Keep going Doctor. You're fact-less rants entertain me endlessly. Though you really should get some facts on your side before you rush to judge other people. People like you who judge people based on whatever checkout isle gossip rag you read this week scare the crap outta me.

          • OriginalEmily1

I've held people and applied first aid after ODs and suicide attempts while the ambulance was on it's way. I've heard the ranting, the excuses, and the delusion.

There's nothing you can tell me about drugs or mental illness son.

You wanna have the crap scared out of you? Enter that world.

            Better yet, grow up.

          • sourstud

Oh give me a break. People who aren't on drugs commit suicide all the time. I lived a house with 5 meth-heads for a year, so I've seen my fair share of $hit, believe me. But I've also known people who've used drugs recreationally for decades without a problem.

  • justajarhead

WTF. They killed my comment! wow.

  • justajarhead

The man has issues. Real or not he has them. Can you rehab without thr pro's? Yes. I did. IS the man in trouble? AT 45 he looks terrible which is indicative of issues that obviously have drawn his health down. He now looks like he is in his late 50's and not a 45 year old. THe life style he leads needs help. But, is it the lifestyle the same or similar to the world he is in. I wish him luck. He admits he screwed up. Does he have inner strength to survive. I hope.

    • OriginalEmily1

Yes, he does. His teeth are falling out, he can't look after his 5 kids….in fact he can't look after himself much less others.

      He needs help

Otherwise he'll end up dead in a hotel room someday.

  • DerekPearce

His entire fortune will be gone up his nose or up a glass pipe in no time, and then he'll become (more of) a burden on those who love him. It's going to take run-ins with the law to set him straight at this point. To those who think he knows exactly what he's doing, I guess you're kind of right, but where is the crossover point where the "real" you is in decision-making control and where the drugs are actually in control? I'm not anti-drug per se– I say legalize and tax ALL drugs, all of 'em– but by the same token losing oneself to addiction is losing oneself to addiction.

    • OriginalEmily1

Yeah, he's no longer in control, and can't make rational decisions about his life. Those interviews are pure drug-talk.

I also think we should legalize all drugs….but there will always be those who can't cope.

  • myvoice

On his TV show Sheen is just playing himself & how he acts & thinks in his real everyday life. A drunken boozer, no talent, womanizer, disrespectful to women, hates his immediate family, constantly uses other people for his own greedy gains, blames others for all his problems, and blames others for being a big loser … this sure is no stretch in acting by playing yourself all the time a has-been failure!!

  • Judge Roy Bean

People must have awfully boring lives if this is important ot them. Yawn.

I have one gear: GO – epic winning
    Are you bipolar?
    I'm bi-winning
Win here, win there, win win everywhere

    —– inspirational bridge —–

I'm a total frickin rock star from mars – winning
